Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Unfortunately, due to relocation I need to rehome my Saintberdoodle. He is 2 years old, Saint Bernard/Standard poodle mix. Rambo is non-shedding, needs to be groomed at least twice a year. He is about 85 lb. Rambo is neutered, up to date with all his shots and doesn’t have any health issues. He was traumatized as a puppy when he was attacked in a dog park by an adult boxer. He doesn’t trust other dogs and will make himself really scary when he sees a dog. This is all show off and he is not aggressive at all. But because of this and his large size I will only consider an experienced dog owner who can provide Rambo with a good house, preferably with fenced in yard. We currently commuting between New Jersey and Maine and will be permanently in Maine as of third week in September. Would hope to find a good home for Rambo by when.

Have you contacted the DRC? They may be able to help you. I'm wondering why Rambo can't go to Maine.
We are renting small house and its going to be very hard for him since he is used to big spaces. Also, I was working from home all this time and now I will be at work for the most part of the day. I am still considering this, but in my heart I know that Rambo would be much comfortbale if I can find a good home with the yard and new family that would be able to spend more time with him. I left message for DRC as well, but I would never consider foster or shelter, he has to go to permanent home
I wonder what Rambo would say. I think he'd want to go with you regardless of the situation. But you are the best judge of that. Good luck with this however it works out.
I agree.  Animals don't dump people.
I am so sorry.  Will you take your other dog? If so, does Rambo need more training to be acceptable at your new place. Perhaps we can help in finding you a trainer to work with Rambo. I am so sorry he was traumatized.  One of my dogs was attacked by a boxer as a puppy and it took years before he quit checking behind him to see what might be a threat.
Rambo's behaviour has nothing to do with this. He only gets out of the way when he is outside and sees another dog. My other do is older and he is twice smaller than Rambo. He also doesn't need to exercise that much and perfectly happy sleeping all day long

Hi Regina,

Jeannine, VPof DRC, did leave you a message. Check your voice mail and call her.

Good luck to you, I hope Rambo can come with you and adjust to the new environment-he can't help his size. I bet he would adjust if it meant staying with his family. Good luck to you.
He will adjust to what he needs to adjust to; it's a lot easier for a dog to adjust to a new home if he's with the same family than it is for a dog to adjust to a new home and a new family.
Oh my, what a difficult decision. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers!
I agree with F Parker that you are the best judge of what Rambo would say.  But my two cents is that most dogs don't care about having a huge amount of space as much as being with their people.  A lot of happy dogs live in apartments without a fenced yard.  I'd bet you matter more to Rambo than his home size.  But again, it's totally up to you and I wish you the best in making the best decision for all involved.
I agree with F... I think Rambo would rather be a little smooshed in  then a new home.... Good luck with your choice... I am afraid given his history, the chances of finding someone are not that great.
