Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
There is a lot of talk about the upcoming Doodle Cruise in October, 2012, that Jane (Rooney &Stuart) is organizing.
People are also asking if their doodles are invited and unfortunately, the cruise is only for humans. Even if doodles were invited, Fudge and Vern would not be going and here are some reasons why:
First of all, what do dogs even bring on a cruise. Vern eats a lot and I would have to bring a huge amount of food. What if we are out to sea and we run out of dog food? I over pack with just my stuff. How would I fit all that food into my suitcase?
Fudge is not a great swimmer and needs a life jacket most of the time. What if they don't have her size on the boat for the ship's pool? If my suitcase is full of my stuff and Vern's food, how am I going to get a life jacket in there too?
Another big worry....what would happen if they went overboard because they saw a fish in the water and decided to try and catch it.
I think this captain would turn the boat around and pick them up in the water:
But, does this guy look like he would:
I cannot even imagine what Vern would do if he saw this big guy in the water:
Or this on deck: (Remember he is afraid of Lawn Chairs)
It would be fun, though, if they could do this in the water:
We have a real problem keeping their water dishes full at night. I am afraid they might resort to this on the cruise:
Also, Fudge and Vern like to party. My husband and I go to bed early and they could sneak out and get in a lot of trouble. We have all heard of shipboard romances and Fudge does like the bad boys. What if this is what she is doing, while we are sleeping:
Don't get me started on Vern. He can be a follower and if he gets mixed up with the wrong crowd our trip could be ruined:
Finally, we have all heard about pirates on the open seas and I bet Labradoodles could be a hot commodity on the Black Market. I cannot have anything happen to my Doodles by a group of these guys:
So, all things considered, my two doods are staying home where they are safe and sound.

I was on a big ship, not big enough to go horseback riding, but very big. That was part of the problem. And I did get lost. I was carrying maps around with me everywhere. Up and up and up and up, what floor are you on now? But as big as it was, there was no where to walk out in the open air. The pool deck was covered in chairs all the way to the railing, and the only other outdoor space was up and up and up and up to a tiny little walking track. Everything else that was supposed to be outdoors had plexi-glass walls or partitions or something if i remember correctly, I guess to keep you from falling off. Everything was inside, I felt like I was suffocating all the time, like I couldn't get air. And when you looked outside, there are no trees, no nothing, nothing but flat water. (This was the Caribbean) We paid extra for an outside cabin, which was pretty big, but what a joke. That tiny porthole with the same blank blue nothing. And those thresholds at the doorways! And the magnets on the bathroom doors! And those endless long narrow hallways! And those smarmy waiters falling over themselves to put your napkin on your lap for you and compliment your dress and practically butter your bread for you, just to get a bigger tip. Oops, I digress...
Okay, shutting up now, I'm sure this cruise will not be like that.
I can't respond to your comment below ... below the comment. We've gotten too tangential says DK limits.
Yeah I'm bad about the outdoors. Natalie would definitely benefit from some camping experiences in her future...but I'm not sure *I* would do so well during said camping experiences. So she does spend time outdoors, but mainly in my yard where the dirt is familiar =)
Training in the downpour--ahhaha! Pretty proud of myself on that day. But rain in a park...not quite a forest or the woods or tick ridden brush.
I camped once in a tent (gasp!) at Mt. Zion National Park with a church youth group. It was fun but still not something I'm ever drawn to on my own. I think I was hoping a certain boy would be there (which has gotten me to do all sorts of things I would not normally choose [good things]).
Oh and I also went to Montana on my own and stayed at a dude ranch and learned to ride a horse (sort of learned) and sort cattle. That was kinda cool.
I was thinking the same thing, we may need to petition the court to send Natalie and the new little guy to visit their aunties in Chicago and NJ for some portion of the year.
Some of the best times I've ever had in my life have been out in the State Parks finding berries, wildflowers, and unusual caterpillars, especially with my grandson. I love caterpillars. I even like camping, as long as there is access to indoor plumbing.
