Ethoxyquin

I have read that Natarual Balance and TOTW are preserved with ethoxyquin.

TOTW stopped using it and any bags dated after 5/15/11 are ethoxyquin free.

I have been feeding Casper TOTW for about 8-10 months! YIKES!!! I wonder how much/ if it has caused him any heath issues... Tina, how did you find out that bags dated after 5 /15 /11 are ethoxyquin free?

Ethoxyquin is used to preserve fish and was found in TOTW Pacific Stream formula.  Ethoxyquin was never used in the other TOTW formulas.   I called the company after finding conflicting information on the internet.  Here is a statement from TOTW website under the FAQ page.

Does this food contain ethoxyquin? 

Taste of the Wild Pet Foods sources all protein meals (chicken meal, fish mean, etc) from vendors that do not use ethoxyquin. As always, only natural preservatives are used in our manufacturing process to preserve the foods

They no longer contain any ethoxyquin. If you do a search here in the FG, you will find several old discussions about this. We had stopped recommending TOTW for this reason, and started recommending it again after the company issued statements like the one Tina posted that they no longer use fish meal preserved with ethoxyquin.

Also, keep in mind that if a food does not contain fish meal, there is no concern about ethoxyquin, no matter what brand of food it is.
