A few of you have asked how I found Murphy's melanoma. Here is the story.
Every morning I clean Murphy's eyes. They are always full of eye gunk (or boogers, as Joanne says).
It is such a routine, that he will even bring me the washcloth. Because of this, I noticed a rough spot on his nose. I thought Finn had bitten or scratched him (like all the rest of us). It seemed to heal up, but I washed the scab off and it bled profusely. I thought that was quite similar to the skin cancers I have had so I took him to the vet, thinking she would totally blow me off as a neurotic mom. Well, she didn't. It was black. We gave it one week and it was no better so we did surgery.
So, thank goodness for eye boogers!

They did an excisional biopsy. He had 3 stitches. It was hard to close. I'll get a picture tomorrow.
They are talking about doing radiation because they didn't get a clear margin. It sounds a bit like a laser.
F the more I think about it, it was more of a texture difference than an obvious bump at first.
Kinda like something stuck there that you should scrub off. And, of course, I eventually did.
I use a wash cloth too and yes thank you Lord for eye boogers.... I too thought that I was going to be blown off as a neurotic mom, it is always when I am sure something is really wrong that he is fine but when I think that he is fine that he is not.
I am hoping and praying for good results and that the cancer is localized only..
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers
Sophie hated it when I cleaned her eye boogers until I read on here that some people let their doodles lick the boogers off their fingers. Ever since I tried this she happily lets me clean her eyes in anticipation of that yummy treat. Oh my doodle.
I'm glad you caught the melanoma. That must be scary. I hope Murphy is ok!!
