Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know that we all may not agree with who is going to be our President in January, but we can ALL agree it would be nice to see the First Dog be any type of Doodle, right?

I am really excited when the news stated this...........news media stated they were going to get a rescue doodle, which I thought would be GREAT!!!

What do you all think?

Hi Holly, there are two discussions already in progress on this topic. See forum to find what people have been saying. It is an interesting topic, indeed.
Bocker and I were at the DogCatemy Gala in NYC last night with Tamar Geller. She is working on fulfilling the First Family's daughter's desire to get a goldendoodle...a rescue goldendoodle. Mahlia is the one with allergies and who really wants a goldendoodle. Of course it will bring attention to the breed and maybe the down side would be doodles being bred by the wrong people because of their popularity, but we all know how good doodles are and what a perfect addition it will make to the family. Why shouldn't they we as happy as we are with our doodles.
My sister works for The HSUS with Wayne Pacelle...They are actively working with the Obama Camp to find the first family a rescue Doodle.....I'm certain that they are also in touch with and working with Tamar Geller on this...
A question for everyone who is deciding between acquiring a dog via a breeder or "rescue"... if you had a choice between learning the behavioral and heath history of a pet you will be responsible for life or not, what would you choose? When you rescue, you are rolling the dice. Sometimes it comes out great and other times it doesn't.
I totally agree.. a person who adopts an older rescue really needs to understand the needs that may be associated with rehoming and a history. I myself prefer to have a puppy from 8-12 weeks so I can make sure it learns and is exposed to what I want it to be exposed to. But... for those out there that have the time and patience, its a great thing. Not so sure the Obamas will have ample time or experience.
If you're going through a rescue organization that is trustworthy, and a Foster parent has had time what the dog... I would think that they would have a good idea of the dogs flaws. And depending on experience, training works miracles. So I have no fears of getting a rescue. But, I LOVE puppies!!! Despite the potty training, nipping, and constant need for attention... I LOVE puppies :-) So... That is the only thing that would keep me from getting a rescue dog unless I could find a puppy.
There are plenty of Doodle puppies to be rescued too.....Unfortunately the majority of them are from puppy mills....
I will have to say that with the Obama's adopting a rescue doodle............I am sure they will be able to hire a trainer to help their family with this rescue. Barrack seems to be one of those fathers who wants the best for his family and will take every step necessary to help the doodle to become well adjusted.
Yay doodles! They are the best dogs out there! I would vote for the doodle to be First Dog over any other breed!
A writer for the Boston Globe recently joined this site to recruit interviewees. Not sure if any of her interviewees ended up contacting her from HERE...but here is the article she wrote:
Goldendoodle talked up as first dog
Thanks for the article Adina!...It never ceases to amaze me when a reputable journalist such as Ms. Matchan takes a perfectly good story opportunity to discuss critical important issues opting instead to dumb it down and turn it into fodder that reads like it should have been in some celebrity rag magazine or on the back side of The Parade insert....

Where in this article does she disspell any doodle or designer dog myths and rumors?...Where does she commend the president elect for his choice or talk about the importance of animal rescue?...puppy mills?...or even allergies gosh darn it!...lol..Where the heck were you, me, Karen, Lynne or anyone else with with that critical information to contribute to this woman's article when she was looking for people to interview/??.....I'm laughing but I found the article rather sad.....
It's NOT gonna be any "better" in any newspaper. Reporters rarely get deep down and dirty into all the details. That's for shows like "Dateline" and "20/20" -- and they would probably stick to the surface details too.

I don't think most people look at the future Obama dog as something of "critical importance" and more of a fun light hearted issue.

I too wish more people would realize the myths and write about them...but what can ya do? I'm sure both Kathryn Lee (breeder interviewed, and member here) and others said MORE...but interviews that are 30 min long usually get cut to 2 sound bytes.
