We are just so upset with Paxton, our little SHITPOO (literally!) One of the reasons we got the floor was because the carpet was ruined. What does Paxton do the FIRST day the floor is laid? Pooped on the floor. What did he do the first day we got the new area rugs? PEE on the new area rug. He is going to be two years old. He didn't have any problem before he was neutered. But I don't think that has anything to do with it because he does it between the time my husband leaves for work about 7:00 am and when he comes home for lunch abour 12:30. Doesn't do it after that. He stays out all night long and doesn't do it, so we know he can hold it over night from 11pm to 6am. I don't care what anyone says, he knows he's doing it because when my husband walks in the door he doesn't run to him just tries to hide on the couch. My husband will rub his nose in it, say NO! Bad dog and put him in his crate and he knows exactly what he did. What to do? As far as Kahlua, she just looks at him like, can't you get it right? I hate that I may have to give up a dog, but it's not fair for Kahlua to be penned up in a confined space when we aren't home. But I also hate to have Paxton in his crate while we are gone and Kahlua gets to roam free. I am so torn.
How often do you feed your dogs? I'm thinking that we have made a mistake by leaving the bowl of food out, only taking it up in the evening. Maybe go to feeding once a day? I need some advice, FAST!!!!

Brenna is in her crate when I leave the house, and Kali isn't at all. They both sleep whan I am gone. At night, Brenna is in her crate, in the bedroom and Kali is usually on the bed, no problem.
I would follow the advice of the other posters, not scolding unless you see him go.
When DH and I were dating, I brought my golden to his place to be company for his pup. We got home and DH described it as a Sh---ting contest. Little piles of poop all over the living room and they were both housebroken. Stinkers were PO'd that we left them.
Good luck, thnk heavens Brenna is fully housebroken, pee pee took the longest.
UPDATE: Paxton has been doing well. Except that my husband felt bad on Sunday and left him out of the crate overnight, because Hubby said, he never messes over night just during the day. Hubby thought it would be fine. It wasn't. Hubby didn't do anything, put him outside with Kahlua then cleaned up the mess. Starting Monday, my husband put both outside to do their business, get's their food and water bowls ready. Puts up the gates so they can't go out of the kitchen, which is almost all tiled. Let's them roam there until he is ready for work. Then he puts Paxton in his crate and let's Kahlua roam as usual. He comes home at lunch let's the dogs out then allows Paxton time to eat and drink before putting him back in the crate. Came home at 6:00, let the dogs out to do their business, both bowls are down. I kept the bowls down until about 7. I loved on Paxton all night until bed time. Then gently put him back in his crate as if it wasn't a big deal. This morning, I did the same routine as my husband did yesterday. We'll see how it goes. Will keep you posted.
Kahlua doesn't seem to be affected and other than the whimpering from Paxton when he knows someone is up, he doesn't seem too upset.
UPDATE:
We (well mostly DH because I am traveling) we have stuck to our schedule. As we had discussed. No accidents, because Paxton is not allowed out of his crate unless someone is there with him. When he is put in his crate we try to gently put him in there so it doesn't seem like he is being punished, especially when Kahlua is free to roam. In fact he is getting alot of attention from both of us when he is out of his crate. We won't put him in the crate unless it's bedtime and we are upstairs. If we are doing laundry or away from the part of the house he is usually free to roam, we just put up a gate to the places where he has been known to do his business and he is still left to roam.
Now my husband is concerned that Paxton isn't eating enough. If fact he thinks that Paxton isn't even eating. Usually Paxton will take one or two morsels chew on it then leave. I guess he's more of a grazer and since he's been able to roam and get to his food whenever he wanted to it wasn't an issue. But now that he's in his crate when we aren't home then he doesn't have that luxury. And DH also thinks that because he's so excited to be out of the crate he just wants to play or be loved and that he doesn't think about eating. My thoughts are if he's hungry then he'll eat when he knows he's not in the crate. But DH doesn't think so and is worried. Of course that now worries me.
I'm thinking maybe we should feed Paxton separately in the am? Or maybe in the pm. Like maybe put some special gravy mix or something on it so he eats in in the am. That way if he doesn't eat the rest of the day because he's in the crate and/or he's playing with us or cuddling with us he'll have already had his meal and he doesn't have to make a choice?
You must be wondering when he is in the crate. DH wakes up at 6:00 let's them outside for about 15 - 30 minutes, then let's them back in to eat. Food and water bowls are out. Puts Paxton back in the crate about 6:45. Let's him out about 12 when he comes home for lunch for about 15 minutes, then let's him eat for about 30 minutes, back into crate until he gets home about 7 or so. Paxton is pretty much out of his crate until DH goes to bed at 11:00.
Now, there is sometimes (but not consistently) when my daughter will get home at 4:30 and let him out to pee and have him out and about until my huband gets up and he does his routine. Also, my son will come home at 3:00 and let him out and do his thing and put him back up then DH gets home at 7 and does his thing.
Any feedback?
It sounds like you guys are doing well! Is there a time during the day when Paxton gets some heavy exercise such as a long walk or heavy ball playing? I can't tell by what you wrote if he has a chance to burn off the energy that would build up while he is crated? This would be one concern for me.
So if I added correctly in a 24 hour period he is out of the crate for about 5.5 hours? Perhaps he doesn't get as hungry while he is crated compared to when he was loose? Has his eating improved any the last few days? I agree with you that it may take some time for Paxton to understand his new schedule and figure out when he needs to eat.
Hope you continue to work things out! Thanks for the update!
Since Paxton has been doing so well. Beginning Sunday night, we blocked the family room area and didn't put him in his crate. He did fine. Monday morning let him out as usual, did not put him in the crate when we left, just blocked off the family area. Hubby came home for lunch and no accidents. Same thing after lunch, hubby came home after work, again no accidents. Haven't talked to hubby yet today, will know if there was an accident or not last night or today. If none, then we will continue to do this for about two weeks and then talke about letting him full rein.
