Starlit has Pica

Why does Starlit eat dirt?   Good grief, she certainly eats A LOT of good food.   She is crazy about going out in the yard to lick and eat dirt.

So, you think she is missing something in her diet?  Some dogs roll in the dirt. I suppose I should be happy. Huh Laurie  :)

I don't know why she's eating dirt, Joanne, but I'm pretty sure it isn't because she's lacking something in her diet.

My previous dog was a big dirt eater and the soil around my property is very heavy clay. Maybe it is something about the clay?

Cole' (R.I.P.)  did this at a certain place in the yard (he was 14 years old when he started doing this).  I asked his vet about it and she said that he was craving some mineral or the other.  Haley totally ignores this spot in the yard.

I think Haley knows.   Years ago, one of my dogs was hit by a car and my other dog would NOT go even near that spot on a walk even after many many years.

Thanks Anne.  She really does get obsessed with the spots she prefers. Maybe dogs do get Pica like humans do who lack minerals.
