Hey everyone!

Just a quick question. We have always made Bella's food..plus she gets no-grain dry mixed in. The food we make is lean ground beef, peas, carrots, blueberries, sometimes a handfull of dried cranberries, and we change up the vegs sometimes.

Lately we have been adding beef liver to the mixture,Someone said liver is a no no..causes diarrhea. So far she is tolerating it well & seems to love it. Is this ok? Also, a friend of ours grinds up beef heart for his Doods.

Any other suggestions for variety?Oh, and she gets 2 EOPO pills at bedtime ( for over a year now) , has been great for her coat and resolved the hot spot issues.

Thanks!

Ann

There's nothing wrong with adding organ meats to the diet of a healthy dog, but I wouldn't give it every day. It is important to vary the protein source. You can try using any lean meat or poultry, and fish is good, too.

Thanks! I forgot to add she gets sardines about once a week and it's her favourite :) I have never tried pork and where we live, chicken is very expensive , so we don't get it too often.

I don't shop the warehouse stores, but I understand they have good meats and poultry at good prices. You might try that. Chicken thighs are usually less expensive than white meat, and with the skin and visible fat removed, would be fine for a dog. Ground turkey is good, too.

Lean cuts of pork would be fine.

My dog loves all kinds of fish. I can almost always find some kind of fish on sale.
