Hi everyone!  I'm new around here and a kind DKer suggested I start a discussion to get name help.  We're having a hard time picking one for our male puppy who will be coming home right after Christmas.  I know we have time, but he's 2 weeks old now and I want to call him by his name when I talk about him.  I'm weird, I suppose.  My husband and I had our daughter named before she was even conceived.  :)

I feel like I've looked at just about every name out there.  I'm looking for something "human" but not "TOO human" if that makes any sense.  Something classic.  I like Jack a lot but my friend and neighbor has a son named Jack who mows our lawn, so that won't work.  I like Charlie but our other neighbor recently put their dog to sleep and his name was Charlie.  Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!  :)  I also like Henry and Winston but I'm not sure I "love" them.  I'm such a pain!

Frank?

We had a long list of about 20 names with us when we picked up our Doodle.  We intended to name him Romeo, Finnegan or Walter, but 20 minutes into our trip home, we decided that he was definitely a "Charlie".  Common, I know, but him! Your puppy is so precious.  What a beautiful New Year's you are going to have!

Following on the Rudolf idea I like Rudy.
Wow!  Everyone, thanks!  These are all REALLY REALLY  good!  Funny.  I thought I'd looked at every name there is but apparently I hadn't.  :)  You guys are so creative!  Now I'm going to have a hard time choosing between them.  I love the name Sam... so much so, that's my son's name.  :)
I really like Rudy too!  I LOVE Charlie.  Like you said, it's kinda common but knowing how this guy's going to look when he gets older, I just think it fits!  I just don't know if I have the courage to ask my neighbor how she would feel about that.  Do you think it would be horribly rude of me to ask her if she'd mind?  Their "Charlie" was put to sleep about 2-3 years ago.
Katie, if you really love Charlie and your neighbor's dog has been gone for some time now, maybe they'd be honored that you want to name your dog the same.  Our first dog, Kobie, has been gone for 10 years now & people still ask me if I mind if they name their dog that.  I'm flattered they ask.  Hey, my nephew has 2 cousins named Sam AND 2 named Alex.  Doubt anyone asked the family ahead of time before naming the babies. Charlie's a cute name and not something rare, like Sherlock or something. I'd at least ask first.
Thanks for the input Leslie.  I think I will ask her.  She's super sweet, so I'm being silly for being scared to ask.  You're right, though -- I should definitely ask first.  If she says it's ok, then I think I've found my name.  Despite other names being great, this is the only one that has really stuck with me so far.  :)  I do appreciate all of the great suggestions, though.  If she sounds like it will upset her, I will have lots of great names to choose from now!

I agree with Leslie.  If you love the name Charlie, ask your neighbor and see what she says.  There is no harm in asking.  Keep us posted on how it goes!

I asked her last night.  She said she doesn't have a problem with it at all but she has to talk to her husband since the dog was his before they got married.  She said it was sweet of me to ask.  :)

I am partial to Winston.  Had my sweet boy for 15 years.  I also love Nicholas...Nick for short.  Keep in mind that for some strange reason we also call our doodles by nick names....I would end up calling this little guy my "nick a doodle"... hehe

Blitzen is cute too..call him Blitz for short

Good luck on your decision...and keep us posted

After replying, I also thought of Barney and Bohdi.  I did not have Barney on my list, but I wish I had.  Oh Oh, I better get another one - Barney for sure!

love these names!
