We are having a holiday open house in Dec. it will be catered and we are expecting 50-60 people. It will be necessary to move Snicks crate out
of the family room to accommodate the bar. Also there will be all sorts of people friends, colleagues and neighbors milling in and out. I think we should board Snickers for the night. My DH is not exactly sold on the idea as he thinks people will "miss" seeing him and that overall he is good with crowds. Part of me admits I just know it will be easier if he isn't there. We have a Great boarding facility and
it would only be for one night. What are your thoughts on this?

I  would go with boarding...

I'm all for keeping him in his own space...away from the crowd if the party was a small one...but with one of this size...the boardind options makes the most sense.

It would be a more peaceful stituaion for Snickers and for you.

Enjoy the party!

If it was me..... I would board Snickers, that will give you peace of mind and as others have pointed out, Snickers could get into something or sneak out and you don't want that to happen.

I recently share the same situation. DH and I had a Halloween party about 100 people. I decided to follow my gut and DKer advice and board Amante. I had photos of him out for everyone who had not met him to see. IT WAS THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE DONE. I was able to enjoy myself and not be to worried about him (we always worry a little when they are not with us). I definitely recommend you do it. Especially since you have a facility you like!

I am having a cookie party in a couple of weeks and I am having Vern stay overnight with our dog sitter. My niece comes every year and brings her young, very active, kids and they make Vern nervous and will not leave him alone. Fudge gets to stay for the party because it does not bother her, but for Vern's sake, we felt the overnight stay was best.

I would board, you can't watch snickers the whole time and he could eat something or be harmed by another.he could escape,.

Board! Doodles are too cute and too good at begging for food. People just can't resist.

I would definitely recommend boarding.  We have had several large family gatherings (my mother's 90th bd), and small children and elderly were in attendance.  It just wasn't worth it to have another thing to worry about, so I took the dogs to a dogsitter.  We have also traveled with the dogs and stayed in hotels that allowed dogs but would have a dogsitter come in when we went to other gatherings.  If you know a good boarding facility, it would also be great practice for the dogs to go to that facility for an overnight.  You never know when you might need it for any kind of an emergency.

I throw several parties and baby showers.  If at all possible during the day baby showers, I send Brinkley to day camp/doggie day care (I actually plan my parties based on the hours the daycare is open!).  We haven't ever boarded Brinkley overnight because he doesn't do well in crates.  He works himself up so much when in a kennel and when he hears lots of noise from other dogs barking- he just hates kennels (when he was sick and had to stay overnight, the vet said he kept ripping out his iv even though he had NO strength just so he could have them open the door. Finally, they opened the door for him and he came outside of the kennel and slept in front of his kennel. He was crate trained but he's only okay when we put him in and do a certain routine to let him know we are coming back)... so for night parties, I've taken Brinkley to doggie daycare all day and picked him up right before they close.  This tires him out and when the party comes around to starting, he's so worn out that he finds a corner in one of our bedrooms and sleeps.  It's wonderful.  Our daycare is about to open a second location where it will be staffed all night and they'll put the dogs into "packs" where they'll sleep, so they won't be alone.  They actually do this at daycare when the dogs needs a break.  They put them with 3 or 4 other dogs that have gotten along well all day... and they settle down and sleep together.

So long story, short, if he does well being boarded, I'd get him out of the house since they'll be so many people... but if that isn't an option, at least wear him down before the party so he isn't getting into everything.
