We became guardians to Annie about 8 months ago and we absolutely ADORE her.  She's awesome!  She has skipped a heat cycle (at the 6 month mark) and is still not in heat as she approaches her year date (since the last heat cycle).  I'm wondering what experiences other guardians have had with the heat cycles and if there was anything to get that going!  Thanks for anything you can share.  The breeder is getting anxious for her heat cycle to show.  :)

I am not sure this will help, but my guardian dog is on a 9 month cycle--she is very predictable and has had two litters now--so maybe your Annie is on a 9 month cycle--or the fist cycle was so slight it was not noticeable and now you have to wait another 9 months to see it again! Just a thought!

Thanks Ginny! I just hope it happens soon as the breeder is getting anxious and might bring her back to be with other dogs in heat to get her "going', as being around other dogs in heat can speed things up apparently.  :(  We are praying that it happens soon, so that we don't have to have her be away.  I trust him, but it does make me nervous about how long he'd have her there.  Ugh.

My Opal had a very week heat for first one... as I recall - was barely nocieable except by boy dogs.  She was a 7 1/2 month girl.... so her next heat was very noticeable.

Thanks Nancy!  Annie is 4, I forgot to mention that.  She's been on an 8 month heat cycle and we are at a year now.  I have watched closely so I don't think I've missed anything unless it was a "silent" heat.  I hope it shows up soon!

Hi Jenny,

Thanks for your message!  You are experienced so I really appreciate your comments.  Annie is 4 years old and has been in our home for 8 months with no heat cycle yet.  She's been on a 6-8 month heat cycle previously and is overdue now by about 7-8 months.  She's had 2 litters previously.  Her change of homes could be the reason for the delay, but I'm just hoping things happen soon.  The breeder may bring her back to him for a time to get her to go into heat, as the other dogs are in heat.  :(  That really makes me nervous to think of how long she could be gone if she doesn't go into heat with him.  Praying that we don't have to send her away for a time for that.
