Hey everyone,

I was scratching Lola's bum earlier and felt a bump. Of course I had to pick at it, and now it's bleeding. I've found a couple others in her upper leg/back area, and they all look about the same. They're about the size of a mosquito bite. She's acting completely normal, so I don't think it's a skin infection. Any ideas????

Oh my.  Leave those ALONE!  Unless of course you want a big exasperated infection and a vet bill.  My Starlit gets those and last Spring I picked at one not knowing that poodle breeds commonly get pimples.  Your doodle might be prone to a little acne.  If you bother them though, you get a real mess on your hands trying to clear it up.

Thanks Joanne!!! Does the picture look about the same as what Starlit gets, then? Do you put peroxide or anything on them??

This looks like ONE of the ones she has/had.  She still has a few.  The ones now do not have a head on them.  They feel like lumps under the skin--inclosed.  Let me see if I can find my old discussion.  A lot of good information there.  BRB

Here is the discussion with pictures at its WORST.  It started similar to your picture.  But it was the information I received from DK members that help in this discussion.

Of course, I would always show this to the vet though. I did have to take Starlit in for antibiotics.

oh dear, Joanne. Thanks for this!!!! Poor Starlit, good thing you had it taken care of!! Would you just recommend leaving it for now (or using polysporin/peroxide, etc...)?? In your experience, how long do these usually take to clear up? (if I'm not poking at them!!!). Thanks so much for your help!

Read what Carol Brand wrote in my old discussion.  She has poodles and a lot of experience with them.   Starlit still gets them and a few have been there for MANY months with no change. No change because I leave them ALONE!   Do I keep saying that? LOL.   Possibly, EPO tablets might work for Lola to soften her coat and skin.  I think Donna and Quincy also  had one that got infected quickly.   Really, it is no worry, just common in these coats.  Again though, show it to the vet your next time around, or if it gets worse.

Yes, use polysporin or other topical antibiotics and see if that helps.  The above should say enclosed--typo

Thanks, Joanne! I read through the whole discussion. I'll leave it for a few days and see what happens. Thanks for you awesome help!!! Curious...did Starlit's hair grow back???

Yes it did, although it is straighter and coal black.  It's pretty and blends in well now with her coat.

I had no idea this was a thing for poodles. I feel those on Chloe sometimes.

Really? It's comforting to know Lola isn't the only one. Thank doodle for DK!!!! I'm bad with picking at scabs, so I'm sure this wouldn't have grown into such a problem if I just kept my hand to myself!!!
