Groucho Too has a new experience yesterday and is feeling the reprocussions today. My husband takes the dogs out to the start of the trails where he rides his bike at Ft. Ord, and I meet him there after my weaving class to take the dogs for a walk or to the dog park. Yesterday, he got there early so he took the boys for a pee break while waiting for me and they scared up a jack rabbit. The big rabbit ran into a fence and started digging to try to dig under it, but Groucho nabbed him immediately (his first catch of anything living) and the jack rabbit leaped clear over both dogs and took off. They chased him for a couple of blocks and he escaped. The dogs kept searching everywhere for the rabbit and even continued trying to find something to chase on our walk. Very out of character for Groucho, he stayed by me for our 40-minute walk and then sat by me at the dog park. At bedtime, he was noticable limping and both my husband and I checked him out thoroughly, but could find nothing. We have attributed it to his golden brain and his poodle body.
That sounds more like our Mastiff. She is the sweetest dog you can find, but she isn't too swift in the intelligence department! LOL
Last night, Cealeach wanted to lay on the bed that Bella was on, so she dropped her chewie, so Bella would come get it. As soon as Bella got up off the bed, Cealeach grabbed the chewie and jumped into Bella's bed. The sad thing is that Bella would fall for this trick again and again. You just can't compete with Poodle intelligence! :-)
In my most cynical moments, I find myself thinking that the REAL reason for all these poodle mixes is to dumb down the poodles a little bit...who wants a dog that's smarter than you? LOL !
