Tick bite

Yesterday we took our puppy to get our Chrostmas tree with us. When I got In the car I found 2 ticks on her. When we got home we searched her all over, min you she is 6 months and has never had a real hair cut, only eye/paw/sanitary trim so her hair is long! This am I was petting her and found and embedded tick on her head. I freaked!! We smothered it in Vaseline and removed it. I am almost certain we got the whole head but there is a leg stuck. I then put peroxide on it as I was advised to do. I am scared she will get a disease from it! She is not on tick/flea preventative but has had her lymes vaccine. I am going to call te vet first thing tm am. Anything I should be doing in the meantime?? All suggestions welcome! Thanks.

Thank you Nancy. We have checked her again and again but I am too scared there are more! I am going to call the vet in the am for their opinion. I sure wish it was easier to see these creatures on our doodles.

I never even dreamed to look on Gracie.  A week later she was running and her ear flapped backward and I saw this dark spot down on the inside tip.  I looked and it was totally engorged.  I really freaked out and then after we got it out we started feeling around and found the others.  The one on the top of her head was dead but the one on her nose was not.  I just kept thinking about how I pull her up on my pillow at night for some snuggling before she moves to the foot of the bed.  I felt all creepy for a long time after that!  I think I gave her a really short haircut afterward just to inspect her.  Gracie doesn't have thick hair and when she is wet you can see her skin which is very pink so she got a good once over.  Now when we go anywhere there is a remote possibility of ticks she gets Frontline Plus on her and also she wears an Advantix Tick Collar.  Ticks are just nasty!!!!

Jut the leg! Whew! Vet said she will be fine since she has H
her lymes vaccine. Peroxide and nepsporin will do the trick!

I've been away and am coming in late on this discusion Breanne...but I wanted to say that I'm so thankful and happy that Maizy  is well... and you don't have to worry about Lymes!

That is good news.  Boy do I hate Ticks and I don't even live in a tick area!!!  But, we have other annoyances here!  Give Maizy a hug from me and Gracie Doodle!
