I had some work to do tonight, so I decided to give Cubbie and Ollie each a new chew treat (Himalayan Dog Chews).  They had never had this before but Ollie immediately started chewing.  Cubbie wandered around with his for a while before he found a good spot to lay.  (I don’t know if he ever actually chewed on it or if Ollie ended up with both of them.)  Cubbie had been laying on a doggie bed in our living room and Ollie was camped out in the hallway.  The bed that Cubbie was on originally belonged to Ollie, but he didn’t sleep on it much and it has been floating around our house for about a week and a half now and either one will lay on it.

After about 20 minutes or so, I decided that they had chewed enough of the Himalayan chews and gave them each a biscuit so that I could get the chew away from them (I have had resource guarding issues with Cubbie in the past and didn’t want to take any chances).  I went to give Ollie the biscuit and he tried to take it in his mouth along with the chew.  He finally dropped the chew, but then inhaled the biscuit and grabbed the chew again before I could get it.  I got another biscuit and held it away from the chew and finally got it.  He really seemed to be attached to that chew.

Both dogs were walking around sniffing to see if they could find their missing chews and then suddenly out of nowhere I notice Ollie peeing on the doggie bed!!!  We have had him for about 6 months and he has never, not once, had an accident in the house.  Both dogs were outside only an hour or 2 before this incident.  Was this some sort of marking that he was doing?

I am thinking that they will NOT be getting those Himalayan dog chews again because I do NOT want any more peeing inside my house.

Maybe it was his retaliation for you taking his beloved chew! Dolly has done that once or twice before during her really naughty moments, and I swear she knows exactly what she's doing! The intelligence of doodles can be used for both good and evil! :)

OMD! What a rude dood! lol maybe he is giving you payback for taking away his chew? Like a behavioral issues...attitude dood!

do you really think it could have been him getting an attitude for me taking his chew away?  Do dogs do that?

Oh...my Maltese did that ALLLLL the time! They're smarter and ruder than you think sometimes!

He must have reeeaally loved that chew!!

Maybe the value of the new chew made him want to mark...rather than 'retaliate' against you.  I don't think dogs really 'retaliate' or get back at you.  But perhaps he wanted to signal that THAT was his area given the recent amazing chews eaten in the vicinity?

but it was weird because he wasn't the one chewing on that bed.  He just peed on it instead.

Right, but SOMEONE was chewing on that bed.  Who knows, right?

I never had the peeing issue when taking high value toys away and both my doodles have there certain high value toys!!   Ollie is OK any time I go to take something away but Sasha if she has a high value toy she will guard it, I also work on the trade off with a cookie.   I think with my two Ollie trys to dominate Sasha with the toys... I alwasys buy things in twos and give each their toy, chew or what ever.  Sasha will take hers and quietly go some place to dig in and enjoy.  But Ollie will take his toy but constantly keep an eye on what Sasha is doing, after a couple of minutes he will get up and try to take her toy as well.  He will have BOTH toys and my poor Sasha will just be sitting there and Ollie has both toys.  Lately Sasha has been putting up a fuss when he trys to do this and I supervise when they get new toys now.  For some reason Ollie does not like when Sasha has anything !!!  Now when Sasha has something she really likes and he goes to take it she will tense up and if he gets too close she will give a little growl like saying "don't even think about it Oliver".  Ollie knows better and will just stand over her and bark in her face at a really high pitch until I stop it.  Of course Ollie's toy is just laying there, he just wants what Sasha has !!!  I know Sasha is guarding her high value toys from Oliver but none the less I do not like her growling and I do not like when Ollie has his own toy and for the heck of it just wants what Sasha has.  I believe this is all due to Ollie trying to dominate over Sasha, but both of them know I am alpha dog.  I closely supervise when I give them new items now so both doodles can enjoy - its like having two toddlers - LOL

Wow, that is really strange.  It does sound like some sort of marking behavior....maybe he was just overly excited about the chew.  My guys love them too.  They get to chew for an hour an then I take them away till next time.

Yeah, it was paybacks....I recently kept my sisters 7 month old doodle for a week while her other doodle was recovering from a spay.  Luna hasn't had a potty accident in the house in several months here or at home.  (she comes over often) .  Mind you, my mother had been home with the dogs allll day.  I had come home from work, played with all 4 dogs for about 30 minutes and my mother and I left to go have dinner.  Well, Luna had peed in the middle of the bed, and pooped right on top of the pillows when we were gone, which was a total of about 90 minutes.  The day before we were gone over 4 hrs and came home to nothing, everything in order.  I know it wasn't any of my dogs, they have NEVER pulled anything like that. That was def paybacks to me for leaving right away I think.  They are smart lil babies, they know more than we give them credit for...

Yuck!  I'm not sure what I would have done if he had peed on my bed.
