Well, Charlie has been home for almost 24 hours. Trish and Melissa already know this but the ride home was a tad difficult. He was car sick for the entire hour-long drive. The first time it happened, we were unprepared and had a huge mess. After 20 minutes at a gas station spent cleaning, we were on our way again and Charlie made good use of a plastic Target bag. :)
Once he was home, he just wanted to snuggle and nap. By the time the kids came home from preschool, he was coming out of his shell. I can't get over how incredibly sweet he is.
We've only had one accident so far -- that was this morning. We take him out about every hour and he always pees and has pooped a couple of times. Despite the car sickness, he has managed to eat 2 meals for us and all of the plumbing seems to be in good working order. :)
The first night wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. We put him into his crate around 7:30pm (went to bed super early last night because I was so exhausted). He whined for about 5 minutes, then settled and went right to sleep. He became restless around 11:30, so I took him outside to pee. Our cat decided to throw up around 2:30am and this woke Charlie up, so I took him out for another bathroom break. Each time I put him back into his crate, he whined for a minute or two and settled right down.
He's currently barking at his reflection in the sliding glass door. :) He's been so sweet and SO loving. My husband wasn't as into getting a dog as I was but I can tell even he is quite taken with him.

Wow, he looks like a big boy in the pictures. Is he older than 8 weeks or possibly it is just the angle in the photos. He is adorable and looks very sweet and cuddly. How did the kids do when they came home from school? Look forward to lots more pictures.
He is actually 10.5 weeks. The breeder held him for us since we were away for an extended time over the holiday. The kids were SO excited. My husband had him outside when we pulled up and they both squealed when they saw him.
your puppy sounds like my Gracie. She flew all day to get to us and her crate was clean not even a pee! We just cant stop thinking how much fun she is. Last night we went out to dinner with friends and couldn't wait to get home to her. THis morning I found her in bed with me instead of her crate. I went to bed earlier than my husband and he said he couldn't get the crate to close.....so he put her in bed however she did have a poop and a pee. I woke up wondering why she didn't wake me to go out.!! The crate works, use it! I am sitting in the kitchen it is 7 am and she is knawing away at a bully stick. Today a puppy trainer is coming over for the second time. She is now three months old and I probably wont put her in classes until she is four months. The trainer is helping me stay on point for the things I need to make sure she doesn't lose control of such as bite inhibition etc. She gets a lot of dog socialization from her cousins two chihuahas and a llasa apsa. They come over to play and what a scene. She is so cute and affectionate that two of my neighbors have been in touch with my breeder. Enjoy Charlie, he sounds like a gem.
We are traveling and I just saw your post. Oh, oh, oh - your new little guy is so cute and I can just smell the puppy breath! I can only imagine how excited your children are with your wonderful new baby. We also have a Charlie - he is a chocolate labradoodle and just turned a year old. We have been on the road for 3 days and he has been the perfect gentleman at the Marriotts in which we stay. We rrive at our destination today - yeah!!
Enjoy your time with your new puppy - the first year flies by!
he's a beauty! congratulations and have lots of fun!
How exciting! Charlie is just darling. Enjoy that little pup, it goes quickly. ;o)
Katie, Charlie is a handsome little boy, isn't he? He looks like quite a snuggler. I am thrilled for your family, and for Charlie. My Morgan is very outgoing, but did not do well in the car at first either. He is still not crazy about it, but doesn't get sick. They are all so different!
Katie,
He is adorable! My husband did not want a dog as much as I did either, but now...they are best buds! My boy does not like the car at all, but he finally stopped throwing up. He will be six months on Tuesday. I could not imagine my life without him. He is the best dog we have ever had. Congrats & Enjoy!!!
Your boy is darling. My 9 pups are five weeks old and even though though I've been doing this awhile, Im always amazed at how fast they grow and change. He looks like a real snuggle bug. You can tell he is used to hugs by the way he is cuddled up to his person. Congratulations
I love him!
Such a sweet puppy...sounds like things are going well. We had the same experience with carsickness on our way home with Guinness. I remember feeling so bad for him....now he's a trooper in the car and go for hours.
