I'm so bummed. Joey is now 8.5 months. She has been SOOOOO good with her potty training. It has been about 6-8 weeks since she had an accident in the house. We take her out about every 4 hours, max and she has held it over night for up to 12 hours while we slept.
Yesterday we take her for a long play in the dog park, come home, and bathe her. She comes out and does her crazy wet dog thing. DH is on the computer for a split second and she's peeing on her dog bed in the living room. Every time she has an accident, it's on her bed (not crate - which is her real bed I suppose). I'm wondering if she's peeing for a reason? I just don't know what it could be. She sleeps in her crate and she's crated when home alone. We have a dog bed in the living room where she plays with her toys, eats her vitamins, lays down and lounges, etc while hanging out with us. Why does she pee on her bed? And what does this mean? She was so good and why would she just pee, less than 2 hours after having gone pee? I don't know what I'm doing wrong putting the finishing touches on her potty training?

I'm wondering if it was just because she was in a really excited state. When my guys get the "zoomies" they're clearly way over-excited, and the peeing may just have come from that. As a puppy my Guinness who was house-broken would still have accidents whenever he got too wound up. If I controlled the level of excitement, I was able to avoid the pee accidents. I'm not sure why it was on her bed though...with Guinness it could be anywhere.
I am wondering if there is still a residual smell on the bed from previous accidents so she goes there. Also, Jane makes a good point about the zoomies and excitement. She is young still and the excitement may be just the thing for her to forget herself. If she only has accidents on the bed I would toss it.
i have tossed the bed! i've bossed 3 really nice dog beds! hahaha
and i get the excitement theory but there have been times where she's been as excited if not more and she didn't have an accident. also normally, on bath days, we take her out for SUPER long park time (to maximize the bath, if that makes sense). so she does get all excited after the bath but she's more tired than anything and soon collapse.
i wish dogs communicated in english..
They have pretty good dog beds at Costco and they're cheap! (Just in case you need to toss one in the future).
Years ago someone told me that when a dog gets a warm bath it triggers the need to pee. Maybe that was the problem.
Meet Rosco my 5 y.o. labradoodle.
He can pee 5 times in 2 hours.
Did she have a lot to drink?
I know most dogs prefer to pee on something absorbant, do you have hardwood floors or tile in most of your house?
Do you normally catch her in the act? If so, what did you do?
Just brainstorming.
Sometimes they just have to go and if they are all wired and excited they might not be thinking about their actions.
I do catch her. I can count on both hands the number of accidents she's had at home and I've caught her each time. I normally gasp (because I can't help it), and silently clean up her pee. When she was younger, I took her out but realized that there's no point taking her out since she just went in the apt! I live on a 5th floor walk up apt, so to take her out is a real chore!
i'm starting to think that she's going because of something other than having to relieve herself. I don't think she's a marker - she's not alpha at all and she's only 8 months and she was spayed at 6 months. But something is making her pee on her bed from time to time....now only if I can figure out what makes dogs pee on things. Like this morning, a cockapoo tried to pee on Joey while we stopped to chat with the dog and the owner!
Maybe a urinary tract infection? Ruby came to us with a UTI and we had a hard time getting rid of it completely. We would try different meds but it kept coming back. We would know it was back because she would drink a lot and then pee on her bed. It was like she was showing us. After the right meds she has been fine for over a month (knock on wood). Just a thought. It might be an excite thing too but keep a UTI in mind.
