UPDATE- SOPHIE IS GETTING HER SURGERY! AND YOU HELPED DO THIS! THANK YOU ALL!

HOMELESS GD NEEDS OUR HELP!!!!
This beautiful curly 2-yr-old girl is desperately in need of costly cataract surgery to restore her eyesight! She was surrendered to a humane society shelter by her owner, who was unable to care for her. The Humane Society would not adopt her out due to increasing blindness because of operable cataracts, and would not pay for the surgery to restore her sight; Second Chance Animal Rescue pulled her from the kill shelter and is trying to raise money for the surgery. Please take a look- we can give her 14 years of being able to see this wonderful world around her! Any donation in any amount will help; even $5. Thank for looking. (photos also below)

Jacquie, are ALL shelters that use the name "humane society" affiliated with HSUS? (Like "The Bogusville Humane Society", etc. ?) I didn't know that...I just thought it was a name they made up for themselves. Hmmm...very interesting.
yes...although they function independently, you have to be approved by HSUS to have "Humane Society" in your name....
By the way...you are also required to follow their protocols....
Here is some infromation that Nancy @ Second Chance Animal Rescue wanted us to know re: "humane societies" :

I was reading some of the comments about HSUS. They don't have anything to do with individual humane societies. They may help states organize and start up or fix a facility/shelter, but they don't inspect or regulate organizations just because they call themselves "humane society". HSUS is a national organization but not affiliated with individuals shelters in the various states. Any nonprofit can add those words to their organization's name. We could have called ourselves Second Chance Humane Society. We chose our name because we don't have a facility/shelter and because we rescue animals and wanted to be looked at differently - a rescue. Hope that makes sense
Sophie is such a beautiful little girl. What a shame if she can not have the surgery. I made my donation and designated it to Sophie for her surgery.
Thanks so much, Karen. I think that even if the donations just take the "edge" off the cost, it will be such a big help. I'm sure they will manage to get the surgery done.
Doesn't she have a wonderful coat? (or WILL have, when she's groomed & brushed out!) Looks like a good, curly, non-shedding coat to me. And such a friendly smiley face, in spite of everything.
Mailed my donation this a.m.! Thanks to everyone who can help at all!
I mailed mine this AM also. If would could get the vast majority of DK members to send just five dollars we could easily cover it! I really hope they are able to collect enough to take care of her eyes! She so deserves a second chance!
Thanks for your kind heart, Paula! Hopefully, they are also getting donations through the petfinder listing, and will get enough to be able to do the surgery without depleting their entire budget or going into debt. She definitely deserves this chance!
I like to make my charitable donations in honor or memory of someone special to me. I sent my donation in honor of my own adopted doodle- if you have a doodle named Sophie, a donation to Sophie's Fund in your doodle's name would be especially nice!
Karen, Done. Thank you!
