I just saw this, and wanted to share it.  What luck that he swam up to the kayaker and wasn't afraid to get in the kayak.  And I'm so glad the guy continued to help him and try to track down his owner.  This poor dog has been through so much now.

What a heart breaking story. So glad the man was willing to help him so much.

I'm glad that dog is alright, and he came across that kayak with a nice man inside!

Looks like a Viszla to me?

I think he looks like a Viszla too! We have two in our neighborhood that look just like him.

The article I read last night about the dog said he was a Viszla

I've never seen this before. How horrible!

I hope the idiot who killed Barney's owner gets the maximum penalty.

Wow.  What a story of strength and survival.  Amazing little dog and what a nice guy who helped him.  I am so sorry for the woman who was killed and hope that guy who hit them and left the scene never gets out of prison.

@ Karen and Linda - I agree!  Can you believe that?!  He was fleeing the scene of another accident when he hit them!

Unbelievable. Manslaughter? Should be murder in my book.

Yes, I saw this one yesterday and was thinking about posting it on DK too!!  Such an incredible story of kindness and survival!  Poor pup, my heart just breaks thinking of all he went through!  The story I read along with the video said that the fellow's sister took him to a nearby vet who was able to locate his family through his microchip.  Another good reminder about the importance of  microchips too. Your just never know...

I saw this on the news last night....poor dog! I am glad that guy was out kayaking to help him! So sad but a happy ending for the dog I hope.

From what I heard the dog is back home with his family.

The gentleman who helped this dog was so calm in his approach, first securing his gear and then trying to assess the dog and the situation.   What a great guy!    Poor dog.  Even worse, his poor owner.   : (      I hope the dog is reunited with someone he knows and loves.
