Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone,

As you know we have our 7 month old labradoodle and since he was a really young puppy during the day we put up gates to keep him in the kitchen and living room (expensive ritchey decorative gates mind you). They look awesome and have worked well however since they do not clamp to the door frame or walls he has figured out how to move them.

We ate looking for high gates that are also wide about 60 inches with a swing door for us to go through. Does anyone have Amy recommendations?

In addition where I can get them? I went everywhere and only found them on amazon for 95.00

Thanks again!

My sister has a nice black iron faux iron gate that matches her deco that is mounted to the wall with a lock.  Its decrocative you really don't notice it.  Her breeder had beautiful gates in his house but then again they were probably custom made.  I think my sis got hers on Dr. Fosters & Smith.

Walmart.com is where we got ours

Is he doing anything destructive? It was around that age that I started letting Allie have the run of the house when we were gone. I was a nervous wreck, but DH convinced me she would be fine. I started out leaving her for just a short period of time and gradually increased the time by herself. She was fully potty trained by then and had never destroyed anything so it was kind of a no brainer. She usually lounges by the front door waiting for me to return.

LOOK ON CRAIGS LIST...WE BOUGHT OURS FOR HALF THAT

We bought our tall gates, with doors in them, from PetMountain.com.  They have been well worth it.  Our dog has not attempted to jump on them or knock them door.  In fact, Hero is quite respectful of the gates and sits patiently as we open them.  We have trained him to wait until he is released, then he is allowed to walk through.  This avoids a lot of confusion and the need to shut the door quickly, or dive to catch him before he gets out.

I don't know if this will help you but this is how we added the height we needed.

If your dog is now larger but you want to add height you may want to raise the mount.  For example: we have a gate between the kitchen and living room which is raised 8 inches to allow cats to pass through but not the dog.  You might even be able to go higher depending on the size of your dog.  A dog can get a head through the bottom but not cross through or pass under
