Glad to hear im not alone in this.
I have heard of the Chicken and rice and my Vet even brough that up but she asked me to try this first.
Lindsey,
Have you contacted the breeder? Are the other pups from the litter sick?
I would switch to boiled chicken breast and white rice. It's easier on her stomach. I'm not a fan of prescription food; it seems most people in the food group aren't either.
She is probably crying so much because her stomach hurts. Poor you and poor little girl!
I am so upset about this breeder she seemed so great and yet she is not responding to my Emails about the dog. I have not tried to call her because typically with in hours she had Emailed me back.... and I just dont know what to say I am not good at confertation situations. In the heath warrenty you have 3 business days to take puppy to the vet and I have done that so if the meds dont work this weekend im having DH call her or I will just drive the 3 and a half hours to her house with the dog and sit there because I am not paying hundreds in vet bills for a dog that was given to me sick.
We tried a dog last fall from her that was fully potty trained and 5 months old but the dog had seperation problems and we could not control her she just went crazy. The breeder was here first thing in the morning to pick the dog up saying how sorry she was. So this is just strange to me. I am hoping she is just out of town of has an emergency or something. She is a vet tech so you would think she would have Emailed me back to give advice or something. I first Emailed her Monday and its now Friday.
Well im trying to stick to what the Vet is telling me to do to the T just so I dont void the heath warrenty by doing my own thing. Because if it doest get better the vets going to have to write me something for the breeder.
She only crys when I leave the room or lock her in the cage.
Hi Lindsey,
The same thing happened to us 10 years ago with our golden retriever, henry, he was really ill, but gradually he got better but always had a weakness in his stomach, so we got him tested once he was adult and he has colitis. It's all good though, we learn to manage it with his diet. I hope you get your puppy sorted soon I know how hard it can be.
Happy to report we hit a turning point last night.
Yesterday with all the new meds the poo was much less frequent and started to get more solid.
I noticed a her engery doubled yesterday as well. So the poor girl must have been feeling pretty crappy but since she started out like that I had no clue. This morning I let her out and she had a really good almost solid poo!!! YAY
So 10:00pm rolls around and I had been playing with her for hours took her water away at 8:00pm & last feeding was 6:00pm. I did lots of potty breaks to try to empty her out.
So we come in and right to her cage we went. She fussed for about 8 minutes. Midnight she let out a yip and it woke me ad i wondered if i was dreaming because she did not bark or yip again. So down stairs I went and let her out to potty. Then right back into her cage. She fussed again but by the time I myself went potty and got into bedshe quit.
3:00am I woke up and had to use the bathroom. So I figured its been 3 hours I better go let her out. Down I went let her out she went potty right away and back in the cage she went. She fussed again for about 8 minutes.
Next thing I know its 7:30 and my daughter woke me up talking in her room.
I went down to let her out and she was still sleeping and there was no mess in the cage.
I am SOOO beyond happy. I just hope the wonderful night in the cage was not just a fluke.
Im giving the vets food a try first. Nex time I go to the store I will grab some canned pumpkin to have on hand just in case in the future she has a bad poo day.
Her poo is not 100% what I was call normal but far from what it was. The vet said it might take a couple days. My worry now after being on this canned yummy food she will refuse to eat once we go back to her dry kibble. I have been mixing a little bit in each feeding hoping that might help.
But they have her on a pill 2xs a day for 5 days and Proboitic powder in her food for 2 weeks.
hows the puppy doing??? so sorry that both of you are having to go through this. did the breeder ever get back to you> just being nosy.
We found out she has Giardia so 5 days of Panacur and 10 days of metrodozonale and we are praying it clears it up. I have heard his can be a hard thing to get rid of.
I ended up calling the breeder and that is how I found out about the Giardia, I guess litter mates also had it..... Thanks for calling me UGH.
The breeder offrered to mail meds to me but I did not think the dog could wait 3 days since she was back to the bloody stool and pooping 10xs a day again.
So far things are getting better, potty training is going so-so she has about one pee accident a day and has no pooped since the weekend in the house and before that no poop in the house the whole week before. So I think once we get this problem cleared up its going to make things really easy.
She has started liking her cage. She wont go in on her own and lay down but she does not bark or whine when I put her in there for the night or just so I can get some house work done.
Thanks for checking up on us... this site as been wonderful.
