Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We had to put our beautiful 9 year old Golden Retriever, Ginger to sleep on Wednesday. She was an amazing dog and Sophie's best friend and companion. Sophie's only 2 and has never been without her "big sister", Ginger. She is lonely and needs a playmate. She doesn't even want to go off the deck to pottie.  We want another Goldendoodle but think we should try to adopt a "rescue dog".

Is there any place to look for a homeless Goldendoodle? Any information would be appreciated. I feel so sad for her.

Great advice Joanne!

Those are two.   One of your addresses is Ooodles of Doodles.   The Doodle Rescue Collective on the front page address is

www.doodlerescue.org

Thanks Joanne & Spud!

Sorry for the loss of your Golden.  Good luck in your search for a new companion

You live two hours from me. I just looked for your city in Ohio.   Too bad.  We would come play with you.

We just lost our dog less than a month ago and our other dog has had a very hard time with loneliness.   I will tell you, it does get better with each day passing.  Be very supportive, understanding, and patient.  Dogs do mourn.  Just like we do.  It is very sad.  Seek me out for support if you wish.  I understand, as many on here do, what this loss means to the entire family.

Some say, getting another dog right away is the best thing.  Others warn against it.

Not all dogs like each other so choose wisely and be happy.  Make sure it is a good fit for you, your dog, and the poor dog who needs a forever home. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss

I am so so sorry for your loss. I am glad you found this site. I highly recommend the doodle rescue site that Karen said. They are amazing people who do amazing things for these rescue dogs.

Hugs to your family,

I must say that the people on this site are some of the kindest, considerate people I've come in contact with. I really appreciate all your words of wisdom and condolences. You are all just wonderful! Thanks so much!

Julie,

I have an idea for you to consider.   Since it is early in your loss and you are going on vacation would you consider fostering?

The need in Ohio is great for temporary foster homes due to many hardships in our state.  In the 90s I fostered for G.R.I.N. ( Golden Retrievers in Need) and a few years ago I fostered for DRC

This situation helps a dog in need, provides companionship for your other dog, and does not tie you down for many years in commitment.

There are many organizations up near your way, or you can apply to foster a doodle at the link I provided DRC

It's an idea.

You will have tremendous support for a good organization.   It also leaves you open to find that perfect forever again, dog.

I got back out of bed, turned the computer back on to write this  LOL

It just came to me as I was watching TV.

Oh Julie I'm so sorry for your loss, it is so heartbreaking to loose a pet.  I know my two doodles would be lost without each other for sure.  Take time to greave Ginger, she will always be in your heart and good luck on your rescue.

I am very sorry to hear about Ginger and that all of you are grieving now but loss is part of loving a living being. When the time is right I am sure you will find another loving companion.

Hi Julie, I am so sorry to read about your loos of Ginger...I am praying for you and you family.

I also wanted to tell you that when my two Grand dogs became one Sophie, the boxer beagle mix, was miserable just like your Sophie. They were living with us at the time so I watched that poor baby be sad and spent lots of my time loving her up and walking her and basically trying to fill the void. I think Sophie helped in my grieving and I helped in hers. Believe me there were a lot of tears.

I think it took Sophie about a month to not "look" for Lexi any longer (took me a lot longer).

It's wonderful that your sitter will be able to take her to work with her, all that constant attention will help.

So I guess what I am saying is for you to take your time, be there for her and she can be there for you. You have gotten lots of wonderful advice here. I am sure you will do whatever is the right thing for your family.

One more thing....I think it's wonderful that you are considering an adoption, thank you.

Julie, you have got some great advice here already and I can't really add to that but just wanted to say that you are in the very earliest stage of grieving for Ginger and it makes it all the harder when you have to watch Sophie mourning too. I wish you all the very best in your search for a new dog.  Hopefully it will come when you and your family are completely ready, when you are in a stronger place and ready for all the challenges and changes a new dog will bring.
