Dexter was laying on his back with his legs stretched out and I noticed a small circular rash on the inside of his thigh as well as a (slightly smaller than pencil eraser sized) yellow lump nearby that seems to be pus filled. Luckily we're headed to the vet tomorrow since he's getting neutered but I'm still freaking out a little bit right now. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be??

Good Morning Everyone!
I wanted to report back (and thank you all for your ideas!).
The vet gave us a topical spray saying he has a form of dermatitis. Hopefully this clears it all up. He doesn't seem bothered by it but it's never fun to see anything unusual on your puppy.
He's doing great today, after his surgery, although I was so upset yesterday. He hated his cone and kept throwing himself against the wall trying to get it off and made all sorts of crying sounds I've never heard him make. I know it's the best thing for him, keeping it on so that's what I'll do. How long do you guys think he'll need it for? The vet said 10 days but that seems so long!
Could you put little underpants on him instead of the cone? Isn't the issue just keeping him from chewing at his incision?
I actually love that idea and asked the vet but the said the area needs to "breathe"
LOL Joanne--your post makes it sound like only Spiderman and Batman work! What about Superman? ;)
Oh for sure no Sponge Bob!!! How about Scooby Doo!!! You can take the cone off when you are sitting with him and see if he tries to lick. He will probably give it a sniff which is OK but if he starts to lick tell him NO and he just might stop. If he leaves it alone while you are with him that will give him a breather from the cone. But be sure to put it back on when he is unsupervised. I do remember that puppies do get dermatitis now that you mention it. They are sloppy little tinklers and so the drips can sit on the skin. I now remember my vet telling me to wash down with warm wash cloth or wet ones her tummy...boys are probably a bit more drippy...ha ha.
Haha....although I am partial to Spiderman!
This is great, thank you!
I don't think underpants would prevent air getting to the incision, it's not like an occlusive dressing.
I'm really excited to get a pair now! We're headed back to visit where I used to live and he'll be introduced to my old coworkers and I'd love him to not have that huge satellite on his head!
