We are going to be ordering antlers to sell for our shop, and I wanted to ask some antler related questions. Huff has never had an antler before :(  

Whats better elk or deer antlers?

Which is less sharp, and safer?

I have elk antlers for my doodles, I think I read someplace that the elk stronger ??  I really don't remember the reason I purchased one over the other.  But my doodles love then and they are the only thing they do not destroy within 30 minutes -LOL.

The deer antlers are harder than the elk antlers. Both are safe, but dogs should always be supervised with chew objects.

Antlers come in all different sizes and shapes, so you can't really say one is "sharper" than another. You can get whole antlers, sections, and even slices, where more of the marrow is exposed.

We have used both deer antlers and an elk antler for Cosmo. He likes them both, but, because of the way the elk antler is shaped, it offers more surface area when split--so more marrow to hold his interest! He has lost his deer antlers (or hidden them) somewhere in the house, but he has kept up with the elk antler for about 5 months now and it's still going strong!

I haven't noticed any safety issues with either kind.

When I look for antlers to buy, I look for those sourced in the U.S. or Canada.

I think this is a great idea for your store!

Great idea! My DH won't let our doods have them since our vet tech went and told him that they crack teeth-anything can crack a tooth! She said we like them because they keep us busy!! I hear MORE people say they give antlers than not. Lucky doggies at your place! I think Huff may have his first antler??

We are supposed to be getting some antlers to sample, I hope he loves them.

We chose an elk antler for Luna (she's only had one) because it's easier for her to hold in her paws since it's bigger.  She's had hers since December and has only worn about 1" off the end, it's awesome!

These photos of Hattie are so cute! Where did you get such big antlers? Do you hunt or have a friend who hunts? I have only found pieces of antlers for sale. My big boys could really get into one of those!

I pay $13 for a large but they are a third as big as these and sometimes my guys can chew them down to 4 inches in a week. I'll check this out! Thanks!

I get moose antlers for Camus, $20.99 for 3 large from Grateful Shed. http://antlerchews.com/antler-chews/moose-antler-chews.html   I can order a specific shape of the moose antler from Grateful Shed, which is important because if it is not a flat cut he does not like it.  The moose is also softer than the deer and elk, which he does not like at all.
