Maddie found her first skunk of the season already.  I"m so frustrated because we just had her groomed on Monday.  UGH.  Atleast I was somewhat ready this time with a bottle of Nature's Miracle Skunk Order Remover.   The biggest problem with it is that it says to NOT bathe the dog until she dry and the odor is gone.  Well....I used a whole bottle on her so she is wet and it's too cold to leave her outside all wet in the Chicago area.  I was not prepared to deal with this in Feb so I brought my wet doodle in and put her in the bathroom downstairs. (what else could I do with her).  I feel so bad for her shut in the bathroom and she'll probably have to stay there all night instead of with me in the bedroom and we'll still end up with a smelly house for awhile.

I sure hope she learns to stay away from skunks this time.

I am hoping that there is some connection to cause and effect for Miss Maddie. So sad for both of you... stink-o!

Oh no! that STINKS!

Actually my husband has been skunked more than the dogs.  My husband, his bike, the deck, and two of our dogs have been skunked.  We found that the best thing to get rid of the smell is a bottle of hydrogen peroxide mixed with a box of baking soda and a cup of dish detergent.  You take a brush and brush it into the dog's hair (or on the deck) and then rinse off thoroughly.  The only thing we found that it did not work on was the tire on my husband's bike.  He had to throw that away.  It is a little early for skunks, but everything is early this year.

What a bummer.  We found that feminine hygiene wash works and leaves the dog smelling fresh!

For real??

as fresh as a "summer's eve"?  lol

Yup!  My teaching assistant lived by a park and her little poodles chased skunks on a regular basis and got sprayed on a regular basis too.  They never learned but my assistant swore by the wash.

Oh noooo.... poor Maddie, I hope she is smelling good real soon.   In the ol' days my parents would use tomato juice to bathe our cat when he would get skunked'.  He would be a nice redish pink color for a while.   I don't remember whether is really worked or not, I was very young at the time.

My parents had to do that with their chow chow

Elaine, I don't live too far away from you but luckily we have never had any run ins with a skunk (all fingers and paws crossed).  Good luck de-stinking your doodle.

I smelled skunk in our yard for the first time EVER this past January!  I actually asked my DH to get up and check the yard out (he had just gone to bed:o) because I couldn't believe what I was smelling.  I don't have the best nose.  Then I went online and found out they can spray up to 30 feet?????

In Jan my grandma found a skunk outside our house, no one got sprayed though
