I just saw an article online about the fact that more pets died on Delta Airlines in 2011 than on any other airline.

I thought this was an interesting article and wanted to share it.  One of the breeders I spoke with (before we got Cubbie) said that there is no problem shipping puppies, but I always wondered just how safe it really was.

Our puppy is arriving on Sunday via Delta.  I have EVERY confidence he will arrive safely.

and he will!

(((Thanks Sharon)))

congrats on your new pup!!

He will be fine! That is so exciting!

he will be perfectly fine! Congratulations, that is so exciting! Post pictures when he gets home!

omg! That is very scary! Makes me never want to move so that Parker never has to be on a plane! Wish I could buy him a ticket to sit up top with me! And that is horrific about the dogs that died because the plane was delayed during hot weather! I would have been flipping out that they take my dog out of there while the plane is stuck! I seriously would have had a fit! Awful!

Some airlines have air-conditioned containers for pets, check out which ones do before making arrangements.  I believe Continental Airlines uses them, but don't remember for sure, it has been about l0 years since we used one.

Aside from being messy from an all day flight, our dog arrived healthy and in good condition.

Both my dogs came on Continental, cross country. They were fine and I was impressed by the way things were handled.

How terrible!

I personally would never put a dog in the cargo hold of an airplane for any reason. There is not a louder more stressful environment to be found anywhere. The sound alone in a cargo hold is deafening.

There are airlines that fly the pets in the passenger compartment. Yes, it's expensive, but this is a living being who is supposed to be part of the family, not cargo.

I think this part of the article was most significant:

" a few had to be euthanized after self-inflicted injuries in their carriers"

Imagine the kind of stress an animal would have to be feeling to inflict that kind of injury on himself.

Before me and my sister were born my mom and dad went to Colombia with their chow chow and he came back mean and vicious
