Hi  Does anyone have a favorite conditioner they like ?  My doodle is curly, and mats

daily.  I have about 5 brushes, and several conditioners but nothing has worked.

It gets to the point where I have to take mats out just to have him groomed, or they

cut them out "the wrong way"

Ned seriously matted from about 6 months to about 2 or 2 1/2.  We brushed him every other day from stem to stern.  We used Cowboy Magic or Horse Mane 'N Tail products applied directly to loosen mats.  We also used Cowboy Magic Conditioner for a while.  Mostly we had him groomed often - every 4 - 6 weeks.  Ned still mats but we can go 1 - 2 weeks before a thorough brush/combing and most mats can be brushed out.  We prefer the LesPouchs slicker brush and a steel comb. Ned's coat is odd and no one wants to quite say what it is but it is poodle thick but more like dreadlocks than curls except under his chin.

Nancy-  That is exactly what I am dealing with.  It is more like dreadlocks...  maybe it is coat change, maybe there is hope !  Levi is at the groomers now and I am hoping he is not shaved too bad.  I spend 2 hrs a day for the last week on carefully taking mats out so there would be no holes, and he still had mats :(

Did you like the Cowboy Magic Conditioner ?  The issue with conditioner is that I use Minksheen as a flee repelant and dont want to cover up the eucaliptys smell.

What I like best is the Cowboy Magic dematter.  It looks kind of like Vasoline.  You put it directly on a mat, wait, then comb out.  For the whole grooming bit, I like to spray The Original Horse Mane 'N Tail Detangler on an area, wait a bit then brush comb.  Recently my son took our Springer on a hike and Gordie came home with burrs all over his ears.  I sprayed the Horse...  on the ears and I was able to actually brush the burrs out.  If I hadn't done this, I would have had to cut the fur on his floppy ears off.

Because we get Ned professionally groomed often, I have rarely washed him myself.  For a while I had the groomer using the Cowboy Magic shampoo and the conditioner.  It seemed to do the job, but she has other products she uses also that work well on him now.

My dog has thick curly wooly hair that mats really easily.   Cowboy Magic works good, but I just found something else.  I now use John Stasco's spray on conditioner.  You spray it on, blow dry the hair, then comb.  A lot of the mats just fall out!  I took it to my groomer and she loves it and ordered a gallon of the stuff.

Where do you get the conditioner ?  I am not sure I will be able to Blow Dry my doodle...

Does "John Stasco" have a strong perfume smell? Or is it mild in odor?

I guess it is really "Stazko"

Where did you buy your "John Stazko" spray?

Does anyone know where to buy "John Stazko" online. I can't even find a good one on his web-site.

Whoops, it is "Stazco Conditioning Spray". I got it online at a grooming supplies place.   I couldn't find the website where I got it, but you can try stazco.com. I'm going to buy more soon, so if you can't find it let me know.  I'll see where my groomer gets it.  You can use it before bathing the dog, or during the week, to help demat and condition the coat.

If you use it to thoroughly comb out your dog before bathing, there is no odor, and it makes the hair really soft.  If you spray a lot on and let it sit,(for mats) it does have an odor but it goes away.  If you can't blow dry your doodle, you can let it dry naturally, then brush/comb your dog after it dries.

I just found where I got it.  I got it online at Groomer's Mall.  The conditioning spray was 17.95.

Thanks, went and ordered.
