I almost wish Camus were a finicky eater! He is on the opposite end of the eating spectrum - only refuses to eat when he does not feel well. He is a food motivated dog.
Luca often doesn't eat til afternoon or sometimes evening. Eventually he gets most if not all of his food in if Calla is kept at bay. She, on the other hand gobbles breakfast and dinner when served : )
Ned rarely eats breakfast. He prefers to eat once a day whether I leave it down for grazing or not.
Chewie never refuses food, but I had a foster dog who does. So I used a method I read somewhere and it worked brilliantly.
Basically, I take away the food after 15mins. After 2-3 meals of this, the dog got the idea. Either eat or starve.
Seems cruel but I think it's the only way that I find that works. Should also avoid coaching and cajoling the dog while they eat as it becomes a bad habit.
Oliver went thru a period of being a really finiky eater, I was lucky if he ate half of his reqired daily food. That was this past summer, once the weather got cooler he now eats in the morning and evening. I did switch him to grain free and added toppers to his food. He is 20 months old so I really need to see if it happens this summer. Do you put toppers on Ember's food? maybe change the brand of food? Oliver's fav. topper is liver :) I only put a couple of spoonfulls on his food, I warm it up too and mix in all in - he just loves it :)
Mine wake me at 3:30am to eat!!! They never refuse food!
I hope she can change this on her own, I understand your concern.
Huff does not eat breakfast, sometimes lunch if he is hungry enough. It sounds like he doesn't eat a lot and he does not but that is his fault. He never wants to eat, he always wants to be fed or coaxed.
