I had to give up my GR to my ex because I had given the dog to him for Valentine's day.  Luckily for me, he was no more committed to our beloved GR, than he was to our marrige, so, I got the GR back and lived happily together for 8 more years!  I would never again let go of my dog for reason!

I know a guy who has a beautiful poodle that he got custody of in a divorce and he doesn't take very good care of her. The dog should go to the parent who takes the best care, regardless of who bought it for whom.

Yes!

Perhaps the buyer wouldn't have done much better...

I agree!!

When my friend left her husband she let him have custody of the dog (I think she felt bad for leaving him and recognized from the start he was most bonded to the dog).  As time wore on, he began travelling alot and felt he was not being fair to the dog.  He decided to rehome the dog and out of pure spite refused to give it to his ex-wife.  They are still battling in court over shared property.  It is a small town, so she see her dog with the new owner fairly often.  It breaks her heart but she knows the new owner is taking very good care of him.

I have told my DH if anything similar should happen to us, Gavin is mine!  He agrees.  I will allow visitation of course ;)

That is TERRIBLE!!!

Shoot my ex doesn't even want to see our kids!  I wouldn't have to worry about a dog! LOL

Jennifer, Funny you should post this today. We are in the midst of renovating our family room, DH and I are doing the work ourselves. Neither one of us really know what we and doing and we are getting phone instructions from my brother who is the one with the knowledge. This afternoon my DH told me if I ever mention renovations again he is divorcing me. I said if I go, Quincy goes, he changed his mind. :>)

Whew : ) You two are brave.

Either that or stupid. Our three day project is just going into it's second week. We installed a set of hardwood stairs today, the ones that I've been staining and finishing for days, they look great.
