OMG! Didn't know Doods could have green eyes! That is stunning! I joke that my guys have "person face" but holy cow, those are like "person eyes" staring at you! Gorgeous!!
I know what you mean about "people face"....lol.....Sometimes it really freaks me out!...My sister calls Blake "Furry Human" and says that his face reminds her of Harry from Harry and the Hendersons....lol

wow he DOES have green ones! Rosco started off blue then turned green and settled on amber.
Blake's eyes actually seem to change color...Sometimes they seem almost an aqua blue color other days they are a grey green color....strange..I thought that there would be many others on this site with green eyed, pink nosed doodles but according to Patty Barnes it's kind of rare.....I did have Blake DNA tested just because I was curious..It cost $100 and came back poodle and lab...More poodle than lab but it was nice to find out that he really is a doodle and that there is no cocker spaniel in there at all...

Last weekend I was invited to join the PA Humane Society on a visit to the actual Lancaster puppy mill where Blake came from to pull some more doodle pups!...so I jumped on the chance to see for myself and to help out!....We ended up pulling 8 pups...7 male Labradoodles and a female standard poodle.....I have to say that the farm was pretty clean for an obvious mill...( close to 300 dogs in the barn) and while most pens were quite crowded, they were large concrete runs..not wire bottoms, the bedding was clean, they all had water and food in clean bowls and the dogs all looked pretty healthy considering.....This particular Amish farmer only breeds labradoodles, golden doodles and standard poodles and THANKFULLY he now voluntarily surrenders his unsellable stock to The Humane Society....I wasn't permitted to ask him any questions...I was told to keep my mouth shut, observe, listen and take any pups that were offered to me....I did notice that he had quite a few breeder doodles that looked like ALD's or multi gens....Some were actually quite beautiful and many resembled Blake and had green eyes...As I passed each run, I couldn't help but wonder which one was Blake's mommy......All in all, while so unsettling because of the nature of this nasty business, it was quite an education....I may end up with a beautiful 1 year old chocolate, green eyed male mini...I find out next week...(He's being neutured and vet checked)...but this farmer did say that this dog "fathered many puppies" as he handed him to me....HE"S ONLY A YEAR OLD!!...I could barely contain myself from mouthing off about that!....but I'm so glad that I had a chance to see where Blake came from....
what i can't understand about all these puppy mills is that where in the hell are all of these dogs/puppies going?
outside of the 2 obvious...homes & shelters...where do these amish get "rid" ( i am using "rid" as in selling them to whom? ) of these dogs? because around here... pittsburgh pa, none of the pet stores have dogs or cats anymore. and there can't be that many people in the lancaster & surrounding areas that want/need new puppies..
I know what you mean!...I often think the same thing!....I believe that they go to brokers who either sell them to pet stores across the midwest or to "upscale" puppy stores such as the one that one of my rehomes came from....Other than that they go to the Dog Auctions to be sold as breeding stock to other mill owners....
Amy, I'm in the Chicago suburbs, and within a 5 mile radius of my house there are 6 pet stores that sell puppies...Pete's Petland is the biggest chain, but we also have a "Puppy Palace", and a few independents. Brokers buy from the mills and transport the dogs in trucks to pet stores all over the country. In addition, there are brokers who sell the puppies directly to the public via websites on the internet; when you look at the website, you think it's a breeder, but they are staged photos. "Almost Heaven" was recently raided by the HSUS, and had over 1000 dogs living in horrendous squalid conditions. Here's the website:

How could you know the truth from that? You would be surprised how many people order dogs from websites like this and never know where they're really buying from.
Here's another horrible fact.....Another place that "brokers" sell to are organizations that conduct scientific research on animals.......I will also tell you that those "brokers" will actually visit shelters and pull dogs from there as well and they have carte blanche to pull whatever dogs and cats they choose and because of politics, many shelters are powerless to stop them....
Jacquie, I somehow missed this whole adventure. OMG, I don't know if I could have done that. I would have been thinking the same thing. Was one of them Ginger's mother? I am crying here thinking about it. I am so glad you were able to rescue 8. I don't think I could have kept my mouth shut, though. I am proud of you, girl.
Thanks Lynne...I know that this whole discussion is completely off topic from "Green Eyed Doodles" but I'm glad that we are chatting about it.......As far as the visit...I felt so powerless!..but this is the way it has to be in order for rescues to maintain relationships with these mill owners and BYB's and get as many voluntary surrenders of "unsellable puppies"as possible...no questions...no judgement....just give us the dogs and see ya....It's heartbreaking......but seriouly... the conditions were'nt as bad as I expected....As I said..I was just happy to see where Blake came from because the shelter where I got him from gave me different details......I was told that the conditions he was pulled from were horrific and that he was one of many scheduled for a bullet in the head.......In reality, he was a voluntary surrender and while there was over crowding and this guy had way too many dogs,( I forgot to include in my previous post that he also breeds cocker spaniels) the conditions of the kennels and the dogs surprisingly were not bad and he has been surrendering dogs to local shelters for years...

I am under the impression by what I was told, that if this guy could find some other line of business and livelihood, he would....Now that some of the legislation has changed and new laws have been introduced regarding commercial dog breeding in PA, he and many other Amish and Menonite "breeders" may have to do just that... and we are going to start seeing more and more of these dogs in area shelters...Especially now that only licensed veterinarians or trained animal technicians are permitted to euthanize animals in the state of Pennsylvania ....It will no longer be easy for these "breeders" to dispose of "excess inventory" ...No more fertilizer for their corn fields...The offense for killing a dog by inhumane means will carry a stiff fine and have other reprecussions....
No green eyes here, but we're green with envy. What beautiful eyes!
I saw those eyes staring at me at the shelter and I knew he had chosen me to be his mommy....: )
