Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello all. I am new to the agility group. My puppy, Abby, is 6 months old and I have been thinking of starting agility with her. I have a fabulous training facility to go to, Courtesy Canine. It is the same place where Abby took her AKC Star Puppy and AKC Good Canine Citizen courses. They have a couple agility fields, a dock jumping set-up and are now working on putting in a lure course.
Here is my question: which agility course do I begin with or does it matter? They offer an intro to agility contacts and weaves course and a intro to jumps, tunnels and chutes course. I was told it really doesn't matter which you choose, but should do those two courses before taking the intro to agility handling course (which seems odd, but I figure the instructors know what they are talking about).
I am hoping since many of you do agility training with your dogs, you will have better advice on where to begin.
Thank you so much for listening (and hopefully responding).

Thanks Lori. I did talk to the trainers and they said either course is fine. They did mention they adjust the jumps to fit the age and ability of your dog. Same goes for the weave poles. I just thought I would ask as many people as possible to get a good feeling of what to start with. Abby is getting spayed in a month. So if I do start agility, it probably won't be until she is 8 months old or so. I want to give her time to heal.
My pup just had his first class this week. He is a year and a half and we are trying with a private trainer because I was questioning my ability (and agility) as well as his. She has two champions (one active and one retired) and has a young dog the same age as mine. They are border collies and super to watch. I guess I need as much training as my dog. I('ll let you know how it goes.
