I'm always looking for a good, reasonably priced red. I like lighter reds that are slightly tart, or acidic, as the sommelier would say. I hate the heavy ones that taste like ink to me.

I've had some wonderful wines in restaurants, only to find out that you can't buy them in a store; they're only available to the restaurants through distributors.

Here are some of my current favorites:

Folie a Deux Menage a Trois California Red Wine: This one is a blend and very inexpensive.

Cono Sur Pinot Noir: Chilean, I have no idea how it's priced, as I only had two glasses in a restaurant

I am very lucky to have a Coopershawk Restaurant and Winery very close to my house. I love this place!

My favorite Coopershawk reds are the Carignane, the Malbec, and the Lux Meritage. But they only have locations in Illinois and Indianapolis, so this doesn't help many of you. Okay, never mind Coopershawk.

I clearly need some more widely available selections. Please give us some suggestions.

I am not a red wine fan, actually I should re-phrase - it does not like me, I get a wicked headache after 1/2 a glass.  My DH on the other hand is a big red wine lover.  He found one over the summer that he just claims is the best ever, it is called Koonunga Hill Shiraz-Cabernet.  Pretty inexpensive about $12-15 I believe.  He has tried several others from Koonunga Hill and said they have all been really good.  I personally love the Ohio sweet white wines :-)
That is a good one too!
I'll look for this one, too. I love that name, lol!

Another suggestion:  a Chilean red blend that is in a burlap bottle cover.  About $10.  I am not a huge red wine fan either and I LOVE this one.  I am with you Karen and do not like the inky tasting ones.  This one is fabulous. I will try to find the name for you.

And one more - a cheapy, but a goody: Bohemian Highway. Get the Cabernet-Savignon.  Delicious at about $7 a bottle. My boss and his wife are wine "snobs" and swear by this.  We had it recently and it's superb.

Please do get the name for me; that sounds like something I would love. And I'm going to look for the one your boss likes, too.
I drink mostly white wine but I agree Yellow Tail is easy to drink. I like Shiraz. Actually, I like most Yellow Tail wines :-)

I enjoy both of the wines you mention above so perhaps you might enjoy this one

- Irony Merlot, Napa Valley, 2004 -

My sister-in-law brought it over one night and and If recall it went "down" very easy....it has been a gradual process but I now prefer red over white wines!

Thanks, I probably will love this one as well!

My newest reasonably priced favorite is Columbia Crest Two Vines Vineyard 10 Red Wine.  Our local liquor store sells it for $6.80, but I think it's normally about $8.  It's cheap, but I really like it.  Here's a pic of the bottle.

Thanks, Les. I need to make a list of these suggestions and go shopping at Binny's.

I found a great California Pinot Noir the other night; had dinner in a little tiny Italian bistro, and this was one of the featured wines for March. It's called Handcraft Artisan Collection Wines, and this one was to die for! Only problem is that I haven't been able to locate a retailer in my area. Still waiting for their customer service rep to get back to me on that.

Folie a Deux Menage a Trois California Red Wine - One of my favorite go to wines and I happen have one open as I write this.....hmm..

I have lots of favorites but Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel is a staple in my home -

Irony Merlot 2004 Napa Valley is a good one too.
