Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Who could be mad at this face? ME! I am trying to do this obstinate bratty doodle a favor by spending a fortune to upgrade his food, and he is throwing a little fit and having a hunger strike. He wants his crappy chemically enhanced food back! Since he is at least 5# overweight (this can be verified by the husband of the administrator of DK, who felt the excess avoirdupois with his own hands), I am not too terribly worried about it. But Jackdoodle's picky ways are just driving me crazy! He has many times abruptly stopped eating some treat he had previously loved, running the other way when I take the bag
out of the pantry as if I were trying to poison him. He has marrow bones lying all over the house that he chewed for 15 minutes and then abandoned. He will sit in the doorway to the pantry and stare at me, past the full bowl of ultra-premium kibble and the scattered bones...what is it he wants? If it is to move to New Jersey, he is out of luck at the present time. He will not eat a carrot, a piece of banana, even a piece of cheese...but I have to hide in the bathroom to eat a tuna sandwich, and the sound of an egg cracking would summon him from another planet. He is the craziest dog I have ever had.
Boy, do I feel better getting that off my chest! C'mon, join me...no advice, no solutions, just a place to vent about your dog's crazy eating habits. (Things like socks and kids' toys count, too!) You know there's something your doodle does with food that drives you up a wall! How about that thing where they take the food out of their bowl piece by piece and carry it over to the rug to eat? Let's have a good whine fest, and maybe a few laughs while we're at it!

Day 3 of Hunger Strike:
Doodle had blood work this a.m. after 12 hour fast; returned home from vet and was given his a.m. kibble. Doodle took a small mouthful and spit it out onto floor.
At 1 pm, (now 16 hours since doodle has eaten), crazed doodle-mom adds fresh warm marrow to food bowl. Doodle eats about 3/4 of a cup of marrow-enhanced kibble.
Treats accepted throughout the day: 2 strips of Happy hips duck jerky.
Dinner serving of kibble remains untouched in bowl as we speak.
Doodle mom, none too emotionally stable to begin with, decides to investigate further. Puts piece of kibble in own mouth, sucks to determine flavor. Cannot bring herself to chew it. Does the same with piece of kibble from old bag in garage.
And you know what? The old stuff DOES taste better! To me, anyway.
I give up.
OMG, you are crazy! LOL Give him an egg and save your sanity for tonite. If he's eating the marrow and the jerky I guess he's telling you he doesn't like it either. But I don't know if I'd be tasting kibble. The things we do for our Jacks. Go hug a doodle!
Hug him? That miserable, rotten, no good...LOL!
The problem is, he can only have 3 eggs a week.
How terrible would it be to throw away a brand new 38 dollar bag of dog food?
You sure do crack me up. OK no egg. How about a piece of chicken for him and a glass of wine for you. The bag of food you can save and mix it in little by little with one he does like. Or donate it to a shelter. He will eat. Tomorrow. Relax tonite.
Booze is definitely called for!...I agree!...Go boil some chicken thighs for the pain in the butt and mix it in with the dry food wwith some of the broth...It's one pot to wash and no headache...lol
boy.... that is funny my izzy and tucker just so happen to eat that food that your jack won't!

do you need my address? i love hand outs!!!! esp. expensive dog food!! lol
Every dog in the world eats things that Jack won't eat. Jack will barely eat anything.
When Adina & Clark were here, I put out cheese and crackers on the ottoman/coffee table...two different kinds of cheeses. This is at doodle nose-level, you understand. He didn't touch it...didn't even try. Adina was impressed at how well behaved he is. Now, it's true that I do not allow any begging from ANY dog in my house...I hate it. But I really don't think in this case I can take any credit for having a well-behaved dog. A CRAZY dog, yes.
And anything that izzy or tucker won't touch you can send over here! What an excellent plan :-)
i don't think it is fair that i get the first hand out's....
adinia has known you longer AND has been to your home...so i'll give her first pick at jack's rejects and from what you have said...there will still be plenty for izzy & tucker.

and karen, i know that you said NO advice....but i am thinking you should just crack open a nice juicy can of alpo, slap the jello like slop on a plate and let jack go attter...lmao....

with your luck he would LOVE it!!
And We Have A Winner! Pet Supplies Plus (a fine establishment, staffed with kind, understanding people well-versed in the loony eating habits of certain doodles) allowed me to exchange the barely-touched bag of NV Lamb for a new bag of NV Salmon- I did have to pay the small difference in price.
And Jackdoodle ate some! Most of his dinner serving, with very little scattered around the floor!
Now, here's the fun part of this story: YOUR CHANCE TO WIN FREE PREMIUM KIBBLE!
Reply to this post with the exact date upon which you think Jackdoodle will first refuse to eat his NEW new food.
The person who comes closest will receive the unused portion, delivered right to their door!
Let the games begin!
ROFLMAO! Again. 5 days
So your guess is Nov. 28th? We must be specific, in case of ties. That happens to be Jack's B-day, so you might want to pick a different day...he is probably not going to be getting plain old kibble that day. I may even...(gasp)...COOK for him!
