Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Joey is about 23-24lbs. at almost a year old. Has only gained 2-3lbs since we got her at 16 weeks but has definitely gotten taller and longer.
We feed her 2 cups of Acana a day - 1 cup in the morning and a cup in the evening.
Went to the vet for routine visit and he told us that she could actually put on another 5 lbs. After feeling her, he said she was under weight.
How much do you feed your dog? We have noticed that she IS on the leaner side. Other doodles we've met are definitely chunkier and they have more mass. Thoughts?

thank you everyone for the advice! i think we're doing all the right things and feeding the right foods. perhaps joey is a bit more active than i think she since i am an active person. i really appreciate the advice. i think i'll continue feeding acana grain free and treat her more often with lean chicken during training.
hi all...i was at piece with this topic until this morning.
yesterday, i decided to give some banana. i fed her about half in the morning and half in the evening after dinner. yesterday i come home and she's chewed on my bamboo knitting. this is HIGHLY unusual for her. she's never destroyed anything, not even attempted to chew on anything except her toys and my socks.
we usually sleeps in the crate but last night we let her sleep in our room (we do this on the weekends). she tries to get up on our bed, again unusual. and i can smell her fart. next thing you know, she's thrown up dinner. like chunky throw up - no bile, no liquids, just kibble. i fall back asleep
i wake up about an hour later to step in her poop in the living room. she pooped all over the living. again she never does this. has not had an accident since she was about 5-6 months and that was from poor management on my part.
clean up poop, put her in her crate, and go back to sleep.
this morning, she's whining. she doesn't whine in her crate and does not whine in the morning. we get up and let her out. she runs to my bed, says hello, gets off and lets out a massive runny poop with a SOUND!
my fiance takes her out to finish her business and while he's out, i'm cleaning her crate and i found that she again chunky vomitted her kibble and then folded her crate liner over it.
:(*****
i have not had experience with chunky vomit. only bile and the wet stuff. what does chunky vomit mean? after 2 throw ups, it looks like her entire dinner.
How much banana did she eat? Some dogs get digestive upset if they eat more than a little (a slice or two) banana.
I think you mean she chewed on your bamboo knitting _needles_. Did she swallow any of it? Do you still have the packaging? Where were they made? Did she get any lacquer or finish off of them?
I don't know what time zone you're in (and whether your vet is at the office yet), but I would call the vet. She has thrown up twice and had two abnormal bowel movements in less than 12 hours.
It would seem that whatever was bothering her is now out of her system, but I would call the vet just to be safe.
i fed her half a banana in the morning to see how she'll react. she was fine. and then gave her another half in the evening.
she did eat my bamboo knitting needles. i don't think she swallowed it because i found the tip that was broken/chewed off. the needles were made in japan as i purchased them there. it was a thinner needler and it didn't look like she chewed for long. she did eat some wool yarn as it came back out in her poop.
i called the vet. they said to offer her some food and if she refuses it, then come it. otherwise, keep offering small amounts of food to see how she reacts.
If you are absolutely sure that every non-food item she ate came back up (or out), then you can just watch her. But when food comes up looking the same way it did when it went in, that means nothing was digested, and a blockage or obstruction can be a cause of that. Inflammation in the GI lining can also be a cause. Or it can simply be an irritation. The liquid poop also means that not enough food was digested to form normal stools.
My concern at this point would be dehydration. Is she drinking water?
she is drinking some water. i even gave her ice cubes (her fav) to get some liquids in her. started feeding her a little every hour or so. so far so good!
I hope she continues to do well and has no more episodes of diarrhea or vomiting. Keep encouraging her to drink, but do not urge her to eat if she doesn't want to. Simply offer the food and if she doesn't want it at any point, don't push it. Please keep us posted.
my rufus is 70 lbs he eats two cups in the morning and two cups at evening but sometimes he does not touch his food in the morning and just eats the two cups at supper ????? i try
