Diamond Pet Food Suspends Delivery of All Brands made in SC

One of you great Independent Pet Store People out there sent me a 'heads up' that their Distributor would not be delivering any products made by Diamond Pet Food; though she received no explanation why.  I called Diamond and was told...

Paraphrasing 'In light of the recent Diamond Pet Food Recall, out of precaution Diamond is suspending delivery of all products made at the Diamond South Carolina facility until more information is available.'  Told to me by Julie, Diamond Pet Food Representative.

Julie did not have a list of Diamond manufactured foods made at the South Carolina Plant.  She suggested if a pet owner has a question if the food was made at the South Carolina Diamond Pet Food plant, please contact the respective company.

Foods made by Diamond Pet Food (though not confirmed to be made at the South Carolina Plant)
Solid Gold
Canidae/Felidae
Natural Balance
Kirkland (Costco Brand)
Chicken Soup
Taste of the Wild

No other information was provided.  Julie was very open and did not hesitate to share this with me.  I thank Diamond Pet Food for the openness.

Thanks to Kristin for the information leading to this news from Diamond!

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

It looks like you will have to contact the manufacturer of your brand to see which plant the food is manufactured in.

Once I check this out, my dogs may not be eating their TOTW.

I hope everyone will not panic over this.

The information in the Susan Thixton article is unverified by any other source. So far, there is only the report by a single store employee, and one "representative", who does not even know which foods are made where.

Diamond has been very upfront about any recall issues. The recall is voluntary and only involves one food, Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal and Rice. (This info was announced and posted a couple of weeks ago.) No animals have gotten sick from the food, the company is acting proactively because of a suspicion that that one formula may have salmonella contamination.

As mentioned above, the other Diamond brands (Canidae, TOTW, Kirkland, Chicken Soup) may not even be manufactured in the same plant, and may not be affected. So if you're feeding one of them, do not panic. Call or email the company (NOT- Diamond Foods...contact the individual company, i.e. TOTW, or whatever. Contact info can be found in the Food Group Recommended Brands list for most of them) and ask if A. The Thixton info is true and B. If your food is made in that plant and/or affected.

Karen...if I understand correctly natural balance duck or chicken is not being recalled right?

No Natural Balance products are involved.

Natural Balance is not made by Diamond Foods.

The only product being recalled is Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Thanks for the info. Hope it's limited to the one.

Oh I am so upset! Sophie hasn't eaten right the past few days and I blamed my DH for giving her real food and her holding out for it. I remember my DH telling me there was a dead mouse On the floor when he got up for work. Well now reading about the recall I just took the 20# bag out of the closet to see if it was what is being recalled and sure enough it is. I looked in bag and there is another dead mouse... I am just sick!!! I grabbed Sophie's bowl and threw her food out. She is acting normal. This is the first I read anything about the recall. Now I have to find a new food for her tomorrow... Any suggestions? I am just sick.. 2 mice...yikes!!!

Denise, we post all recall information in The Food Group, so you can follow that discussion and always get the information when it comes out.

We also have a list of recommended dog food brands with a link on the main page of The Food Group.

It sounds like the mice may have gotten into the food after you purchased it. That's not related to the recall. But you should always keep opened bags of food in air-tight containers.

Thanks Karen.
What I have is large breed puppy lamb and rice. Diamond.

I'm not sure if that's on the recall list. But I would take it back to the store and they'll give you a credit. I just meant that I don't think the mice are a part of why it was recalled.

This is the food being recalled:

The product, Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice, was distributed to customers located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia, who may have further distributed the product to other states, through pet food channels.
