Charlie update! All shots up to date and all clear except for an ear infection!  We are also waiting for the "baby heartworm" results.  He was ok on the adult heartworm test. :). Thanks for all the advice so far!  Purchased the advantil collar yesterday and going to try the kong to help too.  In the meantime so he doesn't hurt himself though, we are taking him to daycare this week.  Our problem now is motion sickness.  He threw up 3 times in my husbands car on the way to daycare today. :(. He drooled so much it looked like a sprinkler system had gone off in our backseat!  We are waiting to hear back from our vet on this.  Twice a day in the car to and from daycare... But if we leave him at home right now he could hurt himself.  I really hope the vet can help us with the car sickness.  Thanks for all the encouragement!  Charlie is a sweet Velcro doggy.  He has already learned sit and down!

Charlie is adorable. Hoping that the car sickness ends soon.

Glad to hear his vet check went so well. We are fortunate that Tara does well in the car so I'm no help there but I know there are other doodles here on DK that do so hopefully their moms/dads will have some advice.

My Guinness got carsick as a puppy, and my Vet gave us a prescription that helped tremendously.  I believe it was Cerenia.  I'm so happy to hear that the Vet visit went well, and that there's nothing seriously wrong with Charlie.

Sounds like poor Charlie has a lot of anxiety. I have a dog that drools like crazy in a crate. We quickly realized crating was never going to work for him. He also whines and shakes on car rides. Yet, he always wants to go wherever we go. :-) He is definitely a velcro doggy.

I had always heard that frequent small car rides were good for dogs that get car sick. Hopefully with time, Charlie's anxiety level will come down some. He sure is adorable. It warms my heart to know you guys rescued him. :-) :-)

Charlie was most probably not brought for car rides from an early age and I am assuming that he may be very fearful which  is making him car sick.  Joanne and Spud* recently fostered a dog that had car issues and perhaps she can chip in with some advise.  I think I would try taking Charlie on some very short journeys with something good always at the end of the drive.  No more than five minutes at a time and a couple of times a day until he sees the car as something good.  At first though I would simply sit in the car and give him some treats without going anywhere.  Slowly slowly he may well get over this.  It seems as if you are already making great strides and in such a short space of time, kudos to you and I look forward to hearing of more progress soon.

Do you use a safety harness for Charlie in the car? That sometimes helps.

I really hope that he overcomes these issues and fast! Good luck to you! Keep us posted.

Great news; no throwing up yesterday!  The vet gave us Cerenia, which unfortunately cost $53 for 4 tablets...wow.   Not going to work for us everyday!  We moved Charlie to the front seat in a harness.  We also heard from several people that giving him a gingersnap right before might help.  Sounds a little hokey but we were desperate.  Well he did great yesterday and we didnt even use the pills. :)  We are saving them for longer car rides.  My husband is still having to sleep next to Charlie's crate, but we are hoping to take small strides this weekend with the help of a kong, etc.  I am also curious...has anyone used the thundershirt for separation anxiety?  Thanks again for all the encouragement and tips!
