I know it has been discussed before, but I didn't see any recent posts. Our vet has recommended trifexis but I have heard some of the negative side effects. I was wondering if anyone is using it that likes it. Should we try it or use frontline and heartguard? Thanks

I have seen some people mention having issues with Trifexis, but I have been using it with my girl, Abby, for 3 or 4 months and have not had an issue. The medication must be given on a full stomach, if not they could get sick. But that really goes for any medication. I have seen people mention the meds made their dog lethargic, but I haven't experienced that.

I don't know if this helps you will your decision. But I will say I am glad to have a website like this to know about possible issues and what to look out for.

Best of luck with your little one!

I also give Buddy Trifexis and haven't experienced any issues. Just like Kim said, it must be given on a full stomach. Buddy has had some diarrhea after taking it but that is the only side effect that I have seen.

I have been using Trifexis on my dog for last 4 months. He has had no side effects and it works well. They always tell me to give it to him on full stomach and if he should throw up in first hour they would have to give him another pill. That has never happened. They are telling me that Advantage no longer works-the bugs have become immune to it. Its nice just having one pill for hearworm and fleas,

I've been using it for the past 6 months. My dogs have both been fine on it. I give it to them immediately after they eat breakfast. Izzy definitely scratches a lot less than when she was on Advantage Plus. I also heard fleas are becoming resistant to Advantage. Just this month I started to have misgivings only because of toxicity. But it really is the only thing that has helped. So, I am staying with it for now.

My Bailey just got her Trifexis pill yesterday.  This will be month #3.  I was a bit hesitant as well but...she is fine.  I think the advice everyone has given is good....make sure your dog has eaten first.  I put peanut butter on the pill and she gobbles it right down....after breakfast.  My thinking is...if she has a reaction to it, I would be able to get her to the vet during the day.  I know some folks give it at night but it freaks me out to think of something going wrong in the middle of the night.

I put peanut butter on theirs also. This way I know they eat the whole thing.
