Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Home cooking has gotten out of hand time wise. Has anyone tried Newmans Own Grain Free Organic Beef canned dog food. We are trying some along with Orijen Kibble as a topping. Both Billy and Lexi seem to like it and it sounds like a good food in the "Dog Food Analysis" It is awful expensive at $2.00 per can but we only use one can a day as a supplement to the Orijen for both Doodles.
I would appreciate any input into Newmans Own or any other high quality canned food to use as a topping.Thank you.

Newman's is a good quality food, and $2 a can is actually a fairly low price for canned food.
Any if the brands on our Recommended List are fine. TOTW makes a good canned food, as does Wellness.
Just as a side note, Dog Food Analysis has been defunct for a few years; the reviews are several years old, and many of the forumlas have changed since then.
Where is the recommended list?
I have a question. Do you mean you are using the can food as a topping on the kibble, or the other way around?
Just curious.
We just started them this week. Until now we were feeding Orijen dry food topped with ground carrots and apples and either chicken breast, or pork roast or ground hamburger extra lean meat. We varied their diet but it has become so much work home cooking that we decided to try to find a grain free ,organic canned food that our picky eaters would try. So far they have tried it and we are hoping that we made the correct decision as to quality. We use a half can and mix it with the Orijen for each of them. We like to travel and having a canned food along with a dry food should make life with the Doodles on the road a lot easier. They still have good stools and seem to like their new diet.
The reports that I found on line follow:
Paul Newman is not only known as an actor, but for having a great line of products that you can depend on being all natural and organic. Now he has great dog food too.
Veterinarians and dog experts agree that for the best health possible, you need to feed your dog both wet and dry dog food. Newman's Own takes the prize for the best-canned dog food. The Beef & Liver food has absolutely no grains or fillers and comes as close to what a dog eats in the wild as you can possibly get. With no additives and no preservatives it's easy to understand why this food makes the top ten best dog food list.
Orijen Adult Formula - contains no grains but instead, uses potato for carbohydrates. This food is one of the ten best dog foods because it includes deboned chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, lake whitefish, turkey, and salmon meal for meats. Healthy veggies include sweet potatoes, and carrots with whole eggs.
Although this dog food is expensive at $40 per 15-pound bag, it's worth the money if you want the best for your dog but don’t want to make your own dog food. Not only do the makers of Orijen offer a high-quality dog food, they go the extra mile by including healthy herbs, botanicals and probiotic microorganisms
Lots of people put some kind of topper on kibble; we have dozens of discussions here in the Food Group about it. Using canned food is a good option.
I use Wellness Grainfree as a topper, it's $2.75 a can, sounds like this is the way to go.
Hope it works out well for you-great idea for travel! Hope they love it!
