So after a fantastic day at the dog park with Shelby and Knox and after picking out about a bajillion burs from his fur and bathing him in a gallon of shampoo, Ollie was completely wiped out. After his bath and us napping, I noticed his paw pad had a flap of skin on it. It didn't bleed at all, and he was so tired that I didn't think it really even bothered him. Today is a different story. The dog is pitiful. He doesn't want to stand let alone walk. The flap of skin came off (he either chewed it or it fell off) and he looks at me like it's the worst thing in the whole world. I have to bring him his bowl of food and water and practically drag him down three, yes three, flights of stairs to go potty. I have put neosporine on it and right now I have a sock on him so he won't lick of the ointment. I plan to wait and see if he is still this sad tomorrow and if so I'll take him in. Is there anything I can give him for the pain? Is there anything I should look out for? It doesn't look too bad...it looks kind of like a popped blister. He is either a wimp or in a ton of pain. And those boots are now on my shopping list.

I did end up taping around the sock so it would stay on! He was still limping and pitiful this morning, but a little more stable on his foot! He just had too much fun at the park! I'm sure he will be up and going soon! I need to get the boy some shoes I guess! lol He can't wait to spend more time with Shelby and Knox!
When I needed to keep Camus' paw covered I found that little girls knee socks worked best and to keep it dry while outside I taped a plastic bag over the sock.
I did end up taping it, which helped a little bit. He hasn't been walking much. Only when I drag him down to go to the bathroom!
Poor baby! Sorry he's feeling low. Get well soon.
He is a little bummed for sure. I'm hoping when I come home after work he will be feeling a bit better! Thanks Sharon and Monty!
Well, Ollie, if you're going to hang with the big dogs..
Really, I'm sorry you got hurt. I sure hope Knox and Shelby didn't wear your 'lil paw pad off, lol!
He IS a big dog! lol
He just had so much fun, running and jumping around. He was going top speed and his feet just couldn't keep up!
Ouch, Ollie! We had the same thing happen to Monty last Wednesday. He had a dime-sized raw spot on his hind paw pad. He was not limping, but licking the spot did not help either. So I used socks on his leg for a couple of days, no walks (or a very short ones with a boot on). He was without a sock when I was able to keep and eye on him during a day, but he slept in a couple of socks. I also sprayed it with Vetericin (especially after he licked it) and put Musher's Secret on the paw once it started healing. Finally after two days, he stopped being interested in the foot and I could take the sock off. I hope Ollie's foot heals fast as well. Poor baby!
Oh no Monty! I have to take the sock off Ollie when I leave ...he leaves it alone pretty well when I'm home, but I'm afraid he might eat it while I'm gone though...that would not be cool. I'm hoping after being off of it a few days, it will toughen up and he will be back to his bouncy self soon!
I am just reading this and hoping Ollie is doing better today. He is so darn cute :)
Thanks Laurie! His devastation over his hurt foot makes him more cuddly, which is cute. :) Hopefully tonight he will be back to his normal goofy self.
Home from work and the pup (okay large dog) seems to be doing loads better! He still has a slight limp, but walked to his water bowl all on his on his own and is eating his treat that has been out for over a day! Woohoo! :)
