Well I was very touched and surprised, even though it's just good client relations, that my vet sent us a condolence card at Jake's passing. He was euthanized last Friday after a very long and painful week. I won't go into details as I wrote a tribute blog to Jake that's been posted. But I was wondering if other vets do the same thing. It's the first time I've received something like that from any vet. But then again I haven't been in this situation for a while so perhaps it's just times they are a changing.

I'm so sorry about Jake, it is always so hard to lose our little canine friends.  It sounds like you have a very nice vet.  The dog we had before Tara was euthanized at home by a vet who made house calls. She did not send any card but the vet that euthanized the dog before him did send one and it really meant a lot to me.

I am sorry to hear about Jake. I have a wonderful vet also. He sent a card when I lost Pokey and Sadie 3 months later. Some friends sent memorials to the SPCA in their names. I had never heard of that before. My thoughts are with you..

OUr vet sent us one when our beloved 16 1/2 year old chow chow passed away. He dies at home, but I had to call the vet to cancel the appointment. It was very touching. They wrote something like " The pain of losing the pet is great but the joy that they give us is much greater " or smethinglike that.

Im sorry to hear about Jake.

Im sorry it was such a hard painful week too : (

Our vet sent us a nice hand written note with each dog we lost (2 Euthanised, 1 passed naturally while we were contemplating saying goodbye at the vets)

Roberta, This is such a good idea. My BIL's dogs are very old and very well loved. I will try to remember to contribute to Davis when the time comes. Lovely gesture.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose a beloved pet. My heart goes out to you. We lost our golden retriever in September. I still cry thinking about him. I miss him everyday.

Our vet did send us a card signed by all of the staff, along with inked paw prints of his front paws. Our dog loved having his paws rubbed so having those paw prints really means a lot to me.

Andrea-I'm so sorry. Sounds like you have a great vet, that little card means a whole lot to the pet owners.

I am so sorry to hear about Jake.

When my Yorkie had to be put down last Aug it was 11pm on a Friday night so we had to go to the ER vet. Our regular vet found out and sent a rainbow bridge card as well as a card from the ER vet.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like you have a great vet.

So sorry to hear about Jake!  My vet sends a condolence card and even calls.  It's a good feeling to know my vet cares about his furry patients.

I am so sorry to learn of Jake. This a loss that is hard to put words to.

My husband and I lost our 2 almost 15 year old Beagles in 2010.  We lost them 3 months apart.  Our Vets were wonderful.  We had specialists involved with Lucy, and got cards from each. We got flowers from one of our Vets. I have saved the cards and read them regularly.

Our Oncology Vet wrote "Your love and concern for Lucy was evident in every decision you made." You know, I believe this was a reason I was drawn to DoodleKisses.  Such loving and responsible pet owners...the pain of loss does run deep.  Would we have missed out on life with our puppies?  Not a chance.

So sorry about your Jake.
Yes, my vet sends a card and more. We had a cock-a-poo to pass away suddenly while we were on vacation one time. Our dog was staying with our neighbors in their house. My vet wanted to make the phone call to give us the bad news. He was thinking of our neighbor and us. He explained everything that happened. We think he is the greatest vet ever.
Of course we came home. That was 10 years ago and he is still a very thoughtful and caring vet.
