Hello!!!

Ive had my puppy for 3 weeks now and it my dog and cat are still fighting constantly!

The breeder told me to let them be, but because im scared of one of them getting hurt i have been giving Chloe (dog) a time out or putting the cat in a room for a bit if it gets to out of hand. Should i really just let them be, even if they are playing a little rough. So far no injuries but ive heard a couple of yelps, BTW my cat is declawed.

If there are any suggestions as to what to do to make them get along well in the future id love them!

Amazing!!! our cats sound very similar in fact it was one of the reason why i got a pup, well i wouldnt say that.. Id say i didnt get one sooner because i was nervous about kitty and dog together. But a friend of mine brought over her puppy one time and Oliver "my cat" was amazing, just wanted to play wasnt scared or territorial at all, so i thought why not!!!  Oliver is more of a dog really always wanting to play bite and chase and taunt

My biggest is worry about not letting them play together is they wont form that relationship that i know they can have together, "Chloe nibbles and licks Olivers ears and head" its like grooming? strange!! haha

Since you have both perspectives, do you think that Dec will one day be able to play with Pixel like your Lachlan does now? or will they forever have a different relationship.

Thank you so much for your input and your little beasts are amazing!

Ps: your video above looks exactly like how my little nuggets play, i just dont know if they sound the same! lol

LOL, Michelle, it does sound like we have very similar felines! I was down to no dogs at all for the first time in my life when I got Pixel. A few weeks of his insanity and I found myself thinking "this cat needs a puppy!" I'm grinning here at your description of Chloe grooming Oliver because that's exactly what Pixel does to Lachlan, "Hold still, puppy, your ears are filthy, where have you been?!" I'd say let them play together and just be ready to intervene when they start to get rough, as young critters (and kids) will.

I hope Declan will be able to have a relationship of some sort with Pixel, but we'll see. He was just neutered on Thursday so I'll try letting them interact again in a couple of months. They both want to play rather badly, but Dec needs to calm down a bit first.

:)

I have to tell you this is one of the FUNNIEST things I have seen in a long time.  Where did you find the music?

I wish that all doodles and/or dogs were like this with kitties.

also i thought this was the funniest thing although it is pretty gross and shame on me for not being a good puppy mommy! but i had to run to the washroom and Chloe barked and i ran out and she had pooped at the door, "bad mommy for leaving her unattended" so i took her outside to finish her business come back and Oliver my cat was scratching around the poop like they do there in the kitty litter and was freaking out just wouldnt stop digging trying to cover it up, i guess they dont realize its hardwood, or care whos poop they are trying to cover? hahah oh gosh! animals i tell ya!

LOL! That is funny!! Don't you wish you could read their minds sometimes?

ROFL! Too funny! "Bloody puppies, can't take 'em anywhere, I dunno, didn't its momma teach it to use the litter box grumble grumble ... "

Dogs and Cats.  This  has gone on for thousands of years.  Way before any of us had dogs and cats.  Think Tom and Jerry!!

It took a long time, but I've taught dogs to go into a down/stay as the cat approaches.  It is work but can be done.

I also get boxes and put them high on the furniture-bookcase. Yep, it looks ugly but who cares. I love my cats.

Give the cat an out.  It will be fine
