Hurleys surgeon called. Hurleys platelet count is too low. They think it's the antibotics that he is on. They are going to take him off of those antibotics and put him on new ones. We are going to have to wait until May 15th for a recheck to see if his platelet count is higher.

I am going now to pick up Hurley and bring him home...I just want to get these cysts off his head.

I think I made the right decision by not going through with the surgery. It was up to me and I didn't want to take the chance of him bleeding out or having a hard time healing because of the low platelet count.

Thank you all for keeping y our thoughts with Hurley..I will keep you posted..

What a shame, but I'm sure you made the right call.  Keeping you in my thoughts.

Trust your judgement & be thankful the doctors are being so careful...another few days will seem like nothing when this is all over...the important thing is that he's healing & will be healthy when they operate :)  Good luck with everything & keep us all up to date please :)

Sorry to hear of the delay.

ah darn it.  I think waiting is the best thing.  Hang in there.

Ha ha..that's what I am saying too. We were so close. I just want the cysts off of him. I so afraid of them filling and rupturing again. I am ready for this to be over....

I just brought Hurley home. He is panting hard and i know he is so confused over what is going on...I almost feel guilty for putting him through that today...it's weird to explain what I am feeling..it's almost exhausting...

Of course it's exhausting - mentally, emotionally, physically. No wonder the little guy is panting. Anxiety does that to a doodle. And, mom, you take a much needed rest. Maybe just cuddle with Hurley. It will be good for your both.

My daughter's business partner is pregnant.  Her last blood test showed a quite low platelet count.  They put her on a fairly high dose of Prednisone, which helped tremendously.  Her platelets now are fine.  Don't know if Prednisone is appropriate for dogs in general or for Hurley in particular.  Just putting this out there...

Anyway - hope all goes smoothly all the way around!

I will be picking up his antibotics after 2 today..I don't know the name of it yet..I will post it when I go to pick it up..they told me the name.., I don't think it was that...

Thank you..!

Prednisone is a steroid not an antibiotic.

He may be just dehydrated- heck who knows? But I am sure the vet knows, and I'm positive he will do the best for this dog!
Certainly the vet has seen the outpouring of support. We are an army, so he would never go against us ;)
It is meant to be. Take your time and do it right!

No, dehydration would likely raise blood counts : )

It is only appropriate if there is an  autoimmune component to the problem, which is probably not true in Hurley's situation.
