We l actually I have two. I just noticed as I typed this that spell check does not work on titles. No wonder with my typing I have to go back to edit discussion titles at times, never mind about the rest of it.

But my main annoyance. I wish there was a better way for replies to connect to the comment to which the reply is made. It's easy when there's just one reply or a few, on the same page as the original comment. But sometimes there are many replies and they are on two pages or more. I start following and measuring mentally the indentations and go back and forth. And a reply may be totally misunderstood if people think it refers to something other than intended. Sometimes we even run out of the ability to reply directly and we have to backtrack to find a way to do so.

I wonder if there is a better, easier way to reply and connect to the specific thing to which you are responding. I suppose we will be told Ning does not allow for this. I often wish I could do computer programming. Well, my real, formerly secret, ambition is to be a benign computer hacker. But this seems to be an unobtainable goal for someone totally lacking in computer skills : (

Any ideas? Maybe Laurie's and others methods of @s would help but sometimes before we reply the first original poster has replied to the thread. Confusion.

I can tell you (because I administer the DRC site) that there is nothing that can be done about the discussion threads. There are only two options, threaded or not threaded. Not threaded means you can't reply directly to any individual comment, like the blogs, only the replies are not in reverse order. Those are the only two discussion forum settings from which the admins can choose.

Not threaded does allow you to stick in a quote like other forums where everything reads straight down without any indentations...sometimes that helps, but it doesn't help keep it nice and trim and it doesn't necessarily help in following a discussion into tangents.

Adina how does one get notifications of new discussion/blogs on the front page? I never do but everything except 'Anyone joins DK", and "Items I comment on" is checked on my settings.

You can't get notified of new blogs, but for new discussions, go to the Forum tab and down at the bottom of the page, you can click "Follow". It's not in your personal settings.

You mean the notify me of new discussions? Does that mean anywhere on DK. Maybe I should be careful what I wish for. Thanks Karen, that only took me 3 years to learn: )

It will notify you of new discussions in any of the main forums, but not the groups. Those are a separate setting for each group discussion forum, lol.

Wow! Thanks.  I will do that - or do I need to try a search first????  :-}

Oh, I had conquered the group discussion thing long ago. Maybe we need a DK degree program.

If nothing else this discussion helps in the misery loves company sense and I'm glad I'm  not the only one going nuts.

I am often confused but this is a constant state lol  I do think that perhaps a 'like' button as on FB would be helpful and the option of comments following the like so that the threads would be easily traced back to the original comment.  (That sounds as clear as mud) : )))  Sort of like a tree with lots of branches?

We do have a like but that isn't necessary after each comment. Just a wat maybe that there was no indentation but it was clear that a reply was to a certain comment and ways to reply to replies . Muddy and confused here too : )

I wonder if they could create a way to fold up sub-discussions (i.e. layers of replies to an original comment in a post) so that if you are interested in reading through them you have to click a + button to see the sub-comments, and when your done you can click the - button to fold it back up. That might make it easier to weed through layers of replies. Just a thought for those Ning people.
