Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I took Lan to the park today and she did great.  She was very happy and met lots of dogs, including another Labradoodle who looked nothing like her!  I'm guesssing it wasn't an ALD as it looked completely different, bone structure wasn't even the same, and wasn't at all friendly.  I don't see many labradoodles and it made me realize just how vastly they can differ in appearance and temperment wise.  Also, it was kind of funny because for some odd reason a lot of people ask me if Lan is a standard poodle... I don't even think she looks like a poodle.  Do other labradoodle owners get this question a lot?

I think I really only knew one poodle growing up.

I remember a few mini poodles with poodle cuts, not sure if I would have known a natural coated poodle was in fact a poodle. The trends where I lived in Michigan and now in Denver are usually labs, shepards, border collies and mixes of one of these types. Obviously lots of others but this is what i see most often. Growing up there were lots of people with small dogs. I grew up with s***-zus and know so many people with them. I hadn't heard of a doodle until the last year, although I wasn't looking for a dog either.

lol! the "t" goes on the other side of the hyphen. tee hee.

I only knew one poodle growing up and they kept her very shaggy. I am thinking most of our neighborhood dogs were mutts. Before I got Fudge, there was a beautiful Standard chocolate Poodle walking with his owner on the rail trail and I really think that is one of my first encounters with a large Poodle. It was a beautiful dog.

And the poodle looks so much like Ned, who is always confused with a poodle - we think it is mostly because of his size, but maybe it is because he looks like a poodle.

This poodle look so amazing why would someone want to make it look all poofy is beyond me. Granted this dog probably requires a large amount of grooming to keep it mat free.

'Your poodle is thick'
I'll never forget a man saying this to me and with such disgust!
He thought Spud was an unkempt poodle with some thickness. Fat and just not right. At that time, Spud was a really skinny puppy.
If you hang around here long enough you will be able to recognize each dog as an individual. No two look alike. Unique ;)
I would have been tempted to tell him "so is your head."

Love it..hehe

We had a little toy/miniature poodle for the 1st 16 years we were married and we kept her cut in a puppy cut the whole time we had her.  She looked very much like your little guy ... only smaller.

Yes, we get the poodle question as well with Monty. The poodles on Karen's pictures could definitely be mistaken for doodles, so I guess it's normal that it happens the other way around as well. Especially if your doodle has a tighter curl. A 10 year old boy once asked me after petting Monty on a street: "He is big. Is he a German Shepard?" LOL, but that's clearly just a kid not familiar with dog breeds. I almost fainted when an adult asked me once whether Monty was a Bedlington Terrier. REALLY?!?!? :-)

Lots of the Standard Poodle owners I know are asked if their dogs are doodles.
