Why that name?

I remember writing a list of possible dog names as I very anxiously awaited for the birth of my doodle.  I  used to call my previous Baby Lover. I wanted something different, something original, therefore I arrived at the name Amante -in Italian my secret lover!!

I love to hear the names of dogs. I especially love to her stories behind the name so please share with me!

I wanted an Irish name for my IrishGD Riley was the top of my list by DH wasn't feeling it. We were kind of at a stalemate. Then I was flipping through a cookbook and came across a recipe for Snickerdoodle cookies and realized the finished product was so close to the puppy's coloring. And bonus it had doodle in the name and DH loved the name. Actually can't imagine him with a different name!

I love Rooney's name! We named our doodle Harli. Every spring my husband gets that look in his eye when he sees the motorcycles zooming around town. Now I would love for my husband to have a Harley but with 3 kids and one income it's a money issue. So we named our dog Harli so my husband would have a Harli. He loves the name! And since we have a girl dog we changed the spelling so it's more feminine. :)

The kids wanted to name her Hershey but I thought it was so common for a brown dog.  I wanted something more original. My dad bought the dog for us so we named our female goldendoodle Charlie after him. Since then I have met a ton of dogs named Charlie, I had no idea it was such a common name for dogs. I keep a pink collar on her so people know she's a girl.

Once we made the decision to get a new puppy I began looking for names.  I wanted to name he/she WiFi, but my husband vetoed that right off.  I still like it :).  I wanted something unusual.  As I have said in the past we use to raise and show "Birmans" (cat).  They are named according to the alphabet for that year, i.e. 2012 every Birman born this yr the name will begin with a J.  Long story short we could not agree on a name until we found our puppy.  We are both James Bond fans and when we picked our pup we named her Moneypenny.

I had a list of potential names and decided to call them out to see if our existing dog would react (I was hoping to avoid confusion between the dogs with similar sounding names). The ones he did react to I ixnayed from the list. Finn was still on the list and my son is a big Phineas and Ferb fan (cartoon) so we decided to go with Phineas and call him Finn for short. Little did I know how popular of a doodle name Finn was until I joined DK.

You know what they say though... brilliant minds think alike. :-) :-)

Both Phineas and Ferb were big contenders in our house! :)  Of course, it was really only my 7 year old daughter lobbying for them.

Well when we got Oliver, I was reading a book about Oliver Wendell Holmes, lol...I was so impressed with his wisdom, and smarts, that when I saw Oliver, that was his name...Oc course I always wanted a child named Oliver too, but DH would not name either of our sons that name, but he agreed when we got Oliver, lol...

Fun discussion!  My son is the world's biggest shark lover so on the way home from picking up our puppy he wanted to name him "great white shark fin" and suggested we call him Fin for short.  He wanted to spell it Finn because of a cartoon character with his name spelled that way.  Didn't realize until I joined DK that it was a popular doodle name!

Our last dog didn't have a name for about 2 weeks and when he was about 7 weeks old he shocked us when he jumped off a dock after the fishing line while my husband was fishing.  He sunk like a stone, I freaked, but he quickly popped right back up and swam to shore.  Clearly his name had to become Fisher.
