Well I was very touched and surprised, even though it's just good client relations, that my vet sent us a condolence card at Jake's passing. He was euthanized last Friday after a very long and painful week. I won't go into details as I wrote a tribute blog to Jake that's been posted. But I was wondering if other vets do the same thing. It's the first time I've received something like that from any vet. But then again I haven't been in this situation for a while so perhaps it's just times they are a changing.

I lost my Cassie three months ago after fighting mast cell disease for three years. She had 5 different surgeries and was at our vets at least once a month for that period. A mobile vet helped me make her passing pain free and Cassie died in my arms in her own house. Vets are a close community and dr. Pat let Cassie's surgeon, oncologists and her vet know of her passing. I received cards from them all and a call from her vet. She was a brave baby and we fought so long and hard to save her. If I had not received some acknowledgement of her loss, I would have been totally convinced that she was just another dollar sign.

I am so sorry for your loss.  It is such a difficult time I am sure.

When our standard poodle became ill, I took him in immediately and our vet was able to diagnose his condition quickly.  He had Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia.  Unfortunately he was unable to respond to treatment and we ended up losing him.  Our clinic was so thoughtful and concerned throughout this ordeal.  We received a card signed by all the employees including the veterinarian.  If you send them a photo, they will also place a memorial on their wall.

Doodle Hugs to you and your family.
