Dis your Doodle puppy shed?

Our 8 week old labradoodle sheds, we don't mind at all but as I have nothing to compare it to I'm not sure if he sheds a lot or a little, if you see what I mean. If I pick him up with a black top on there will be a couple of hairs left on me. I am wondering if this means he will shed a lot as an adult, and how I should be grooming him now? I bought a slicker brush today and he quite likes it so far!

Good news that he likes the brush! I only have my own dog as a comparison, but she didn't really shed as a young pup (maybe a few hairs would show up on black shirts or pants) and then at about 8 or 9 months she started to mat a lot because I think she was losing her puppy coat. Now (15 months) she sheds a bit, as in some hairs on black clothes and some "tumbleweeds" of hair in the corners. Very manageable and well worth her fluffy look! But I have no idea how well puppy coat works as a predictor of adult coat--I'm sure you'll get lots of answers here.

Don't stop with the brush! My doodles HATE the brush and we started right away. You have a good thing going!

Our doodle puppy sheds. If we take him for a ride in the car we have to use the lint roller on the seat once he's out. He leaves quite a few hairs behind. I would say he sheds a fair amount.

I have a shedding doodle - Camus, but I adopted him as an adult, so I do not know what his coat was like as a pup.  However, from reading the many posts regarding different types of doodle coats, it seems that it may be a bit early to determine if your puppy will have a shedding coat or not.  As others have said, keep on brushing!

We have one Goldendoodle that sheds and one that doesn't. The one that does has changed in amounts of hair loss through his puppyhood. He is now 20 months and sheds a little. We have had Golden Retrievers before the doods and he barely sheds in comparison. I think it is too soon to judge how much your pup will shed as an adult. Our 5 year old doodle that doesn't shed at all, never did... puppyhood on.

My Goldendoodle does not shed and my Labradoodle does.  Ollies haid does not stick to you or anything it just gathers on the floor.  He is not a huge shedder but he does shed !!!  YES get him use to the brush.  Brushing is the only thing that keeps the lose hair at bay with Ollie :)

My Labradoodle sheds very heavily, as much as a purebred Lab or Golden, but like Christine, I adopted him as an adult so I have no idea what his puppy coat was like.

I can tell you that I had purebred poodles and other nonshedding dogs in the past, and they did not shed at all as puppies. No hairs left on my clothes ever, and when they were that young, not even any hair in the brush.

But I don't think it's possible to know what the adult coat will be like in terms of how heavy the shedding will be, if any. If you are okay with having a dog who sheds, I think I would expect a fair amount of shedding and then if it's less than that, you will be pleasantly surprised. :)

My Rosco shed pretty much right away.  I noticed because puff balls of fur started collecting at the end of his crate.

Finn is almost 5 months and hasn't shed a hair yet. The only hair I find is in his brush after I work through tangles. It is hard to say what his coat will be like later but it is pretty curly/kinky at his skin. After owning a lab/Shepard mix, I think whatever shedding we may get later will be nothing in comparison! I agree to keep brushing daily, when tired if he gets excited when brushed. I give Finn a chew toy while I brush if he is feeling playful but often he practically sleeps through it all. I use a human pin brush and finish with a greyhound comb to be sure I don't miss any snarls at the skin.
