Since I dont plan on trimming Trixies fur...I recall reading when she was a puppy that people shave their bellys....is this to help them keep cool?
Maybe I should Shave Trixies Belly? I dont have a Shaver...I suppose I cant really trim her belly fur...
And- She is starting to matt a bit under her collars. I have several kinds...But not a rolled collar...I know alot of people say that is the best to prevent matts...Are they always leather? (never owned a rolled collar) Do any come with the Snap on vs a Buckle?
Any other collar style Suggestions? I do keep her collar off lately in the house.

Poor doodle.
Yeah, right! It might work on her armpits, but I wouldn't recommend it for your dog!
This just looks so wrong on such a beauty! Perhaps I need to pitch my razor. Always wanted to look just like Julia!
Agreed. The problem is the tiny knots in the fine belly hair. I shaved Harpo's belly once, but it looked bad with his corded back. Now we also do scissors cuts everywhere except the feet. Irritation is encouraged with any shaving, so scissors works much better on a cooperative dog.
Around this neck of the woods, we have a weed I call Velcro Weed that makes tiny green velcro balls that stick to every part of her body. This time of year, I spend time every day coming the little suckers out of her hair. If I leave any tummy fur, they get caught in her tender hair, and it is painful and tedius to try to work them out. So I use a trimmer and go with the direction of the hair so as not to cause razor burn. Makes life easier for all.
Urgh. Velcro Weeds! We have that here too. Yes, it's a real pain for dogs and owners (to take out).
Rolled leather collars for matting around the neck - makes a huge difference. They do not have to be expensive. Ours are from one of the big box stores. Since I cut my doods short recently (an experiment which I hate), we celebrated by purchasing two for each dog. I ordered beachy fabric collars from Dori and Rua - her business is called Kangarua and they are custom but not expensive. I also ordered water collars custom made from Hot Dogs All Dressed. These are made from a 'plastic' that doesn't mold, etc. and have cool little decorations But their REAL collars are the plain old rolled leather. The reason these don't create as much matting is because the smooth leather and curved edges don't cause friction and mush the hair into mats. One of my doods has a high maintenance and wearing a regular collar for even a few hours will cause mats to form.
Ha ha, thanks for the shave tips.
I will probably keep all bellys unshaved for now....I like hairy bellys anyways.
And look into a Leather rolled collar...I found a pink one one line...I love Trixie in Pink. Will check the stores too
