Anyone have info on BAKERS grain free?? Never heard of it, a friend told me that her feed store recommended it.
Adrianne, are you sure you have the name right? The only "Bakers" dog food I can find is a Purina product sold in the UK, and it's absolute garbage.
Can you get more information of any kind?
That's the only one I found also.
I've been feeding my puppy Orijen since we got her. Recently people have been advising me that Orijen has too much protein for puppies. Is there any info that I can read up on to dispute this? Really it doesn't matter what others say, my vet and you guys recommend Orijen and the dog has been thriving on it but I'd just like to read up on it. Any articles or old threads would be appreciated.
Champion has the best research backed information on this outdated idea of "too much protein for puppies" on their website. Here's a link: http://files.championpetfoods.com/ORIJEN_White_Paper.pdf
The specific info you need starts around page 26.
Also, think about this. There are only three sources of calories: protein, carbohydrate, and fat. All food is made up of one, two, or three of these macronutrients, in some combination. Carbohydrates come from plant foods, animal foods are made up entirely of protein and fat. Dogs and other meat-eating animals in the wild kill and eat other animals, which means that all of their calories (energy) comes from protein and fat, period. They live very well without carbohydrates of any kind. Obviously, it couldn't be a good thing for the majority of a dog's diet to be made up of fat. So what's left? Protein. That's the natural food for all dogs.
The people who are advising you don't know what they're talking about, lol.
"The specific info you need starts around page 26."
I'm sure that's why I never found it! Thanks so much for your reply.
One last question. I remember reading somewhere, probably here that the protein content is not actually 80% per serving. Do you remember reading something about this?
The actual protein content is given in the nutritional information on the website and on the bag. It's 40%, not 80%. The 80% is referring to volume.
I don't see it listed here, but was wondering what you think about Life's Abundance dog food? In the Puppy Madness, it said DK endorses it. I am researching what I should be using for my pup. He is almost 11 months old now and weighs 65 pounds. I have been feeding Diamond Large Breed Puppy food and not comfortable using it after all the recalls. It is what the breeder used and recommended when we got Pete.
Doodle Kisses the website does not endorse any dog food, so if it said that in the the Puppy Madness group, it is incorrect.
We have many discussions here in the Food Group about Life's Abundance. Basically it is a rip-off, as it is sold through a multilevel marketing scheme, otherwise known as a pyramid scheme. It is a mediocre food that is way overpriced for what it is, you have no choice of protein sources, you have no grain-free option, and the breeders make commissions every time you buy it, which is why they use it and recommend it. You can get much better food for much less money.
thanks for the feedback on that
Here's a link to a recent discussion on Life's Abundance:

I agree that I would not be comfortable feeding Diamond puppy food, and not just because of the recalls. You also don't need a large breed formula, and at 11 months, you don't need puppy food.
I would look at Fromm's, Orijen, or Acana.
