Charlie does this thing with any squeaky toy I give him.  At the vet for this check-up today I told the vet about it.  She said that in 23 years of practice she has never heard of a dog doing this.  So I am trying to figure out if Charlie really is one of a kind for this behavior.  When he gets a toy with a squeaker in it he, of course, must tear it open and get the squeaker out.  Then he takes the little plastic plug in the top of the squeaker out of it.  He then proceeds to chew that little piece of plastic like it is a piece of chewing gum.  He chews and chews, sticks it out on his tongue, chews some more, spits it out, picks it back up and chews some more.  He NEVER swallows it.  I can leave it on the floor and the next day he will go back and chew on it again.  So, does anyone else's doodle do this?

I wonder if the chemicals in the plastic have some added attraction?  I'm afraid my paranoia would prevent such a situation occurring.  I would be saying 'drop it' before you could say boo lol

My dogs chew up sticks and spit the pieces out.

My dog chews up sticks and swallows them.  I finally gave in and let her do it.  I kept taking them away but she would get another and lay down in the shade and munch away. I just figure it is good fiber.  I absolutely do not let her eat mulch though!

I am too paranoid to let them chew on the squeakier and take it away as soon as they get it out.  lame mommy.  haha.  My childhood dog Maggie used to love gum.  She would find it places (like when people would spit it into the grass or bushes or something) and she would just sit there and chew it.  She never swallowed it and never got it stuck in her fur or anything.  Just chewed it like a person.  She was a funny dog.

Daisy does a similar thing. NEVER ever swallows any of it, in fact she doesn't really chew it either. She keeps them forever but once the squeaky part falls out it is no longer fun.

I found an intact squeaky in the chair yesterday, squeaked it and tossed it to her....it is on her bed. She played with it for about an hour, tossing it up, rolling around on it and then of course kept bumping her nose into our butts to get us to chase her.

My Mom use to save the squeakies from her now gone dog with the thoughts of putting them back in and sewing the stuffie....when we got Daisy she sent a baggie of them to play with....they are all dead now but it was fun while it lasted.
